Mamta Singh

My name is Mamta Singh, I am a stay at home mom to two beautiful girls, 4 year old Serophina and 1 year old Saioa. They keep me on my toes and between the two of them, there is never a dull moment in our house. I am originally from Dallas, Texas but have lived in amazing places such as Alaska, Hawaii and now Coastal North Carolina. My husband and I have been together for 12 years and thought we lived pretty adventurous lives until we became parents! I consider myself a foodie, always open to new and different culinary experiences. If I could live at a Starbucks, I would. I am a terrible procrastinator but deep down I’m a meticulous organizer. I enjoy my job as CEO of my household but before that I was a Corporate Educator for Blue Cross Blue Shield Hawaii. I was very fortunate to have the option of staying at home with my daughters and now receive my paycheck in the form of hugs & kisses! Some other things I love: travel, reading, live music, planning parties and spending quality time with friends and family! Like other moms, I do my best to provide a healthy, stimulating and loving environment for my kids and I look forward to sharing my experiences with you!

Snacks and Dessert

I’ve been told that toddlers go through stages of being good and bad eaters.  This has been true for Michael. He used to LOVE asparagus, but now that it’s in-season again, I have to bribe him to take a bite.  It’s the same with green beans and peas.  I’ll prepare the vegetables the same way as I always have, and he still won’t eat them. It’s not just the vegetables. He won’t eat meat either. Steak, pork, and chicken (whether it’s baked, grilled, or fried) don’t do the trick either. If it’s not sausage or Bratwurst, then I’m just out of luck. Charlie and I make him take a few bites …

Picky Palate

It happens every time I walk through the grocery store.  I get that itch.  I go down the baby row and I just stand there and stare at all the fun little baby food.  All the meals and snacks call my name for me to buy them and try them out.  All the jars reach out for me to take them home.  I always see all these cute moms feeding their adorable babies wearing bibs, making airplane noise and wiping their messy mouths with the spoon.  I want to be that mom!  I want to feed my baby!  Sometimes I give in and I load my cart up with …

The Nutrition Radar

Once upon a time there was a toddler prince named Sayle who ate anything his parents gave him.  He loved to eat, but his favorite foods were green beans, peas, carrots, cantaloupe, pears, and oranges.  Sayle would also eat nutritious items from his parents’ plates as well! Sayle’s mommy, the beautiful and intelligent Queen, knew she was very lucky to have a little prince who was not a picky eater.  She was confident her little prince was going to grow up to be big and strong since he was eating all his fruits and vegetables!  And they lived happily ever after.

Then I woke up, remembered my little prince won’t eat any of the above foods and I wasn’t the …

Water Addiction

water bottle

Recently, my little Izey guy has been totally digging water.  It all started on our trip to Texas.  Being in the car for 20 hours straight made it pretty hard to keep cold milk on hand and being that Izey is allergic to ALL milk except Rice Dream, which most gas stations don’t carry, we weren’t able to keep him stocked with his favorite beverage.  Instead, we kept filling up his bottle with water and to our surprise; he actually prefers it over rice dream!

Isaak likes water SO much, that if I give him Rice Dream in his bottle or cup anymore, he refuses to drink it.  He ONLY …

Nutrition for Your Toddler

fruitsaladMarch is National Nutrition Month — not only for adults but little cuddlebugs too! I’ve posted an excerpt from our OHealthy archives which tells you all you need to know in feeding your child:
Helpful feeding information for your toddler:
The toddler (ages 1 to 3 years) phase can often be challenging when it comes to feeding. Several developmental changes occur at this time. Toddlers are striving for independence and control. Their growth rate slows down and with this comes a decrease in appetite. These changes can make meal time difficult. It is important for parents to provide structure and set limits for the toddler.

The following are suggestions to help manage mealtimes so …

Ode to Formula Barf

One summer afternoon I was holding my friend’s son and he spit up on me.  I usually have no issue with baby spit, but after catching one

Sayle's incident was worse than this. Picture courtesy Fugly.com

whiff of semi-digested formula I immediately returned the baby and bolted to the bathroom to gag and throw my guts up. Formula barf to me is like kryptonite to Superman, it is by far the nastiest smell on the planet and has been my nemesis ever since. When I had to switch Sayle to formula, I realized I was destined to meet with Formula Barf again.  Formula Barf was gunning …
