Cassy Fiano

Hi everyone! My name is Cassy Fiano. I was born in Jacksonville, Florida. My husband and I met when we were twelve, at a birthday party where he fell on the pool deck and broke one of his front teeth. I worked in several different fields until I got married. My husband and I knew that we wanted to have a family and that when we did, I would be a stay-at-home mommy. Last July, we found out I was pregnant, and on the day of my first doctor’s appointment, he deployed to Afghanistan. Unfortunately, during my pregnancy, I ended up with preeclampsia. Luckily, my husband returned the morning of my scheduled induction, so the day he came home from Afghanistan was the day we went to the hospital. 16 hours and a c-section later, we had our beautiful little boy, Benjamin. Being a parent has changed my life. I’ve learned to be more patient; that it’s possible to operate on two hours of sleep, and I’ve also learned that I never really knew what stress was until I experienced a baby crying inconsolably for four hours straight. I’ve learned that looking at my son sleeping in my arms can move me to tears, that I never really loved anyone the way I love my him, and that all of the hard times can be completely wiped away with one little smile. The last four months have been an incredible journey, and I can’t wait to share the rest of it with you!

Is My Onslow Water Safe?

Kind of a scary title, I know, but it is something I worry about (among a billion other things, haha). When I first moved to the area about 8 years ago, I was military affiliated, and all my Marine wife pals were freaked out about the drinking water on Camp Lejeune.  Apparently there have been many lawsuits about the toxic tap water.  Read more here.

Something in the water...

Granted this water contamination occurred from the late 50′s to the late 80′s, but it still seemed to be a big concern among the people I spoke with. Bring on the bottled or filtered water! Once I moved …

Poo Poo In The Potty, Yee-Haw!

Wow, I never would have guessed anyone would get so excited over a yucky bodily function, but having kids will do that to you (:

As I have mentioned before, I have been beginning some potty training action with my 25-month-old and it’s been slow going for a while now.

Potty time!

I ask Isaac if he wants to use his big boy potty a couple of times a day, and recently he has begun actually peeing in it as opposed to sitting there for a second then running away cackling. Of course the peeing is followed by the usual praise and what not…Hooray for pee pee in the …

Gyno Appointments Post-Baby

And by “post-baby” of course I mean 2 years after Isaac was born, but I will mention all the associated lovely experiences!

Not that we women don’t dread our yearly pap smear and stirrup show to begin with, but once our bodies have produced and given birth to a child, it’s even more enjoyable (please note bucket of sarcasm).

At least you can keep your socks on!

Disclaimer:  I know that regular health checks and screenings are essential for our health, especially our reproductive health, and in no way would I ever skip it or advise anyone else to…I’m just whining about it, that’s all (:

So let’s see, prior to …

Isaac’s First Fear

I was sitting in the living room, curled up with a good book as I like to do during my son’s nap-time when I can, when all of a sudden I heard a whimper from Isaac’s room.

Not thinking much of it, as sometimes he makes funny noises while sleeping, and it was way too early for him to be up, I continued reading.

Then from Isaac’s direction I hear him say “I scared, Mommy I scared!” in the most pitiful and sad little voice I have ever heard.

Awww my poor little pooh bear, I wonder what scared him? Of course I had to go in then and make sure he was okay and administer a good snuggle hug…

When I walked in …

Is That All You Got, Irene?

7:30 a.m.

Oh Irene, I am not impressed!  What, you snapped a tree in the backyard in half and that’s it?  And we didn’t even lose power?  I can’t believe that’s all you got!

Not that I was hoping for mass destruction, but with all the commotion about this hurricane, I was expecting a little more excitement, oh well.

Let's not end up like this poor guy!

Sarah please, please do not jinx all of us with your defiance and taunting of Mother Nature!!!

And now a category one? Really? Cat 1 hurricanes are for punks! (just kidding) It’s probably a good thing that these storms always seem to weaken when they hit NC, …

Bring It On, Irene!

Not that I am trying to jinx us, but really, the last time we had a hurricane scare was Earl about a year ago, and we got nothing more than some high winds and rain.  I think by the time the storm hits Hubert it was already downgraded to a mere tropical depression.

And as any North Carolinian knows, we Eastern shore folks laugh in the face of anything less than a category 5…well that may be a bit of an exaggeration, but I do think that the locals in this area are pretty well prepared when it comes to hurricane season.

Ms. Irene

We’ve got our hurricane parties, …
