Cassy Fiano

Hi everyone! My name is Cassy Fiano. I was born in Jacksonville, Florida. My husband and I met when we were twelve, at a birthday party where he fell on the pool deck and broke one of his front teeth. I worked in several different fields until I got married. My husband and I knew that we wanted to have a family and that when we did, I would be a stay-at-home mommy. Last July, we found out I was pregnant, and on the day of my first doctor’s appointment, he deployed to Afghanistan. Unfortunately, during my pregnancy, I ended up with preeclampsia. Luckily, my husband returned the morning of my scheduled induction, so the day he came home from Afghanistan was the day we went to the hospital. 16 hours and a c-section later, we had our beautiful little boy, Benjamin. Being a parent has changed my life. I’ve learned to be more patient; that it’s possible to operate on two hours of sleep, and I’ve also learned that I never really knew what stress was until I experienced a baby crying inconsolably for four hours straight. I’ve learned that looking at my son sleeping in my arms can move me to tears, that I never really loved anyone the way I love my him, and that all of the hard times can be completely wiped away with one little smile. The last four months have been an incredible journey, and I can’t wait to share the rest of it with you!

Southern Hospitality

It sure felt good to be back in North Carolina after almost a month in Maryland (:

Isaac and I missed the beach, the blue skies, the down home cooking, the relaxed pace, and of course the friendly Southern folks!

Not that Northerners are not nice people as well, but it’s just different back home for some reason.  For example, after living in NC for quite a few years I have learned how to smile and say hello to others as I walk by.

Share a smile!

When I do this out of habit up North I usually get funny looks and some people actually pretend they didn’t even hear me …

Shopping With A Toddler: A Whole New Kind Of Fun

In general Isaac was a fairly content baby. He easily adjusted to daily activities and changes in his schedule and kind of just went with the flow. He even began sleeping through the night at 3 months, for which I am eternally grateful.

This is not to say my son has not been a handful at times, especially involving naps and teething (:

Overall, however, he was a nice calm infant and baby…who has suddenly morphed into a terrible two!

This is the new terrible 2 face

I was not expecting this to be a such a quick transition, or to be so loud and rowdy, considering Isaac’s temperament, but there …

Baby Baller

And now, the Celtics’ new star forward Isaac Moore steals the ball and makes a sweet 3 pointer. This rookie may only be 3 feet tall, but he’s got game!

Yeah, but I can dream, ok?  (:

Chris recently taught Isaac how to dunk a basketball in the front yard (with a little help, of course), and now the kid is all about it.

SWISH! Nothing but net!

“Basketball, basketball, basketball!” is repeated constantly until anyone taller than him gives in and hoists Isaac up to make his shot.

Of course it’s cute to watch, and I am happy that my son is getting interested in sports. As you all know …

The Great Slide Rescue

Scenario:  Your child is at the top of a steep slide, looking frightened and refusing to move.

Do you:

A)  Run up the stairs on the other side of the playground to get to said slide and go down with your child, ensuring a safe ride?

And risk taking my eyes of Isaac for even one nanosecond?  I think not.

B)  Wait at the bottom and try to coax your child to slide down, regardless of the impatient line forming behind him?

Yikes, that is a long way down, HELP!

Yeah right, we all know the stubbornness of a toddler…it could take years!

C)  Try to climb up the slide to reach …

Enter At Your Own Risk

“Hello, my name is Grammie and I am a toy hoarder.”

“Hi Grammie,” choruses the imaginary support group.

“It all began when my first grandchild was born, well actually before that, pretty much as soon as my eldest daughter became pregnant. Ever since then I have been unable to control my toy collecting impulses. Every thrift store beckons, every garage sale whispers comes hither, and every toy store coupon has my name on it.  I just can’t stop myself!”

And this is even somewhat cleaned up!

Other members of TBA (toy buyers anonymous) nod with understanding and encouragement.

Alright, my mother is not like those crazies on that A&E show aptly …

Here’s My “Business Card”

Wouldn’t it be nice if moms had business cards of our own?

Look at it this way — raising a child or children and running a household and maybe even working as well is definitely the mother of all businesses, right?

Don’t we deserve cute little cards with our info and whatnot on it, among other things?

I was thinking about this the other day at the playground as I contemplated asking another mom for her number, first date style…or rather playdate, haha (:

You all know how I think making new Mommy friends is harder than getting a date, and way more intimidating!

I don’t always have a pen and paper handy, …
