
The tumultuous conditions resembled my mood!
In order to escape the wrath of Irene, the girls and I drove three hours to Raleigh, our typical hurricane safe haven. Kevin would be working the entire time and I was not interested in toughing out the storm by myself with the girls. After having to evacuate last year, I felt like a pro when it came to packing up our valuables and preparing for the worst.

On our recent weekend trip, we took a visit to Marbles, the children’s museum in Raleigh. I remember when Marbles first opened in 2001, though it was called Exploris at the time. I was a little too old for children’s museums then so I never went and eventually forgot about it. My mom had reminded me of its existence recently, and after having read Erin’s positive review, we paid a visit two weekends ago.

Don't you go shopping when there's a hurricane?
Last week when Hurricane Earl hit North Carolina, Coast Guard dependents that were in the area received orders to evacuate. Even though I was worried about possible flooding or the loss of power in our neighborhood, I was going to Raleigh for a day and that wasn’t such a bad thing. It was annoying having to pack up the kids and the dog at the very last minute but at least I knew we were going to be at a hotel that night and not alone in our house, in the middle of the night, with no electricity.
