This week, Joshua had his eighteen-month well-baby visit. While I really don’t like going to the pediatrician’s office, I am always curious to see how they’re growing and developing. It *almost* makes up for the ridiculously long wait.
There were no major surprises this time. Joshua is still big. Twenty-eight pounds, two ounces and nearly thirty-four inches big. He’s at least seventy-fifth percentile across the board, with his height coming in closer to ninetieth percentile. No wonder I feel like I’m feeding a bottomless pit – he is one!
They went through the standard developmental questions – how many words does he speak, does he know at least two body parts, is …
Last Friday marked well-baby/child appointments for Joshua and Emily, fifteen months for Joshua and three years for Emily. They were supposed to be two weeks ago, but given the vast quantity of bodily fluids being thrown around our house at that time, we postponed the appointment.
Well-baby/child appointments regularly take forever at our pediatrician’s office. And on Friday, they take extra long since they have to see all the newborns before the weekend, and the newborns don’t have appointments. And there were a lot of newborns this week. I inwardly groaned when I walked into the waiting room and saw them all there.
I was not disappointed – it took …
So, as I wrote in part 1, despite the long wait, the kids had actually done really well with Joshua’s four-month well-baby check to this point. We had read stories, played games in the exam room, and had had one of our more successful visits. Nathan even came out of his hiding place under the chair to see a real stethoscope in action. Smooth sailing and out the door, right?
Wrong! The last stop before you checkout and leave is the Shot Room, aka my children’s least favorite place ever. Nathan *hates* getting shots. When Emily got her finger pricked for her iron check, Nathan shook and visibly turned …
Last week, Joshua reached four months old. The four-month milestone brings with it one of my not-so-favorite things – a trip to the pediatrician’s office. Thankfully, our pediatricians have a well clinic and a sick clinic so at least I’m not taking all three children into a waiting room that is, by very definition, full of sick kids.
While I like the doctors and nurses there (and even if I didn’t, it’s not like there are a lot of choices in Jacksonville), the wait there is always interminable. Only one time EVER have I gotten out of there in less than one hour. If we finish in less than an hour …
Ha! You said it couldn’t be done, but it finally has! I have done it!
That’s right, I have done the impossible…I have discovered the perfect baby book! It is written by a pediatrician based on his own experiences with patients as well as his own daughter and it is my official must-read for all the new moms out there.
The book is called Baby’s First Year: Eat, Sleep, Poop by Dr. Scott Cohen. Sounds promising, right? It is!
And this is a trustworthy book review because I am certain I have read every single baby book out there, as well as a ton of others…yes I am a huge bookworm and yes my mom is a librarian.
I wish I had read this …

Sweet dreams lovey love!
Not too long after I announced to the world that my sweet baby was sleeping through the night, she started not sleeping through the night. It was so nice of her to wait till after I boasted to my group of friends that “Yes, my baby sleeps through the night. Oh, yours doesn’t? Awww, poor you. I know, I’m so lucky. Yes, she’s such a good baby.”
She must’ve heard those conversations and was like “Oh no Mother, remember when you made me cry in my bassinet for a whole half a minute? Well take this!”
Recently she started waking up in the …
