A month or two ago, I decided it was a good time to start introducing Ben to words like “no”, “stop”, and “don’t”. I figured he had gotten old enough to where he could understand what it meant, so when he would go to pull all the DVDs out of our DVD case, he would hear the word “NO!”.
Unfortunately, every single time I say the word no to him, I get a face similar to the one in the picture. He apparently finds it hilarious. He’ll smile at first, making it incredibly hard for me to hold my stern, serious, disciplinary face. And the longer I try to stay looking …

When Ben was a newborn, we used to sleep together all the time. He hated sleeping in his bassinet or his crib, and would just scream until you picked him up. If you wanted him to sleep, you pretty much had to hold him. Once he fell asleep, you could ease him into his car seat, and he’d sleep there for a while. But there were many, many times that he would fall asleep on my chest, and I’d just lay my head back and snooze right along with him.
As he’s gotten older, and happily sleeps in his own crib, those days of sleeping in the same room are long …

Well, Ben and I are back home in Jacksonville, North Carolina! After two plane rides and several hours of driving, we made it in one piece. The million dollar question, though, is how did Ben do on the plane?
We got to Wilmington last week, and the worst part ended up being getting my luggage, along with my child, from the parking lot up to the ticket counter to be checked. I was able to check two bags, and one of them needed to be Ben’s pack-and-play, so I had to fit everything for the both of us into one suitcase. That one suitcase ended up weighing around 80lbs, so I …
It wasn’t long after my little one was born that I found my hearing had changed dramatically. I would liken it to that of a bat’s. If I needed to, I’m sure I could hear her crying from miles away. I can even hear her crying when she isn’t! I had found my Mom Ears. What are Mom Ears? –The ability to hear and know exact movements she is making without seeing her, whether the slightest sound on the monitor requires a 40 yard dash, or deciphering the sound of your child above a crowd.
Another phenomenon of Mom Ears has to do with the ability to tune out unpleasant sounds. …

If you don’t recognize me I used to write for tummytime but moved away while my husband deployed for a year, and now I’m back. So guess what that means? My husband is ALMOST back too! Also that I get to join CuddleBugs! Yay!
So how about a quick intro? My name is Breanna Sykes. I have a beautiful daughter who will be turning 11 months in a couple of days. I have been a temporarily single mom since 10 weeks after Abigail was born. My husband deployed and I moved back to NY to be surrounded by family.
I have been blessed with an angel. Seriously, my daughter is awesome. At …

As Ben and I are traveling to see family this week, I’m a little concerned about sleeping arrangements. We’re staying with my parents, and we’ll be sleeping in my sister’s room — Ben in the pack-and-play, me in the bed.
Of course, because I over-analyze everything, sleeping somewhere other than our own house brings up a whole new crop of worries. The biggest thing I stress about is that Ben still wakes up at night, usually once. I eventually stopped going to get him, and from what I can tell, he usually goes back to sleep fairly quickly. He’ll cry for a minute or two, and then it stops and I …
