Cassy Fiano

Hi everyone! My name is Cassy Fiano. I was born in Jacksonville, Florida. My husband and I met when we were twelve, at a birthday party where he fell on the pool deck and broke one of his front teeth. I worked in several different fields until I got married. My husband and I knew that we wanted to have a family and that when we did, I would be a stay-at-home mommy. Last July, we found out I was pregnant, and on the day of my first doctor’s appointment, he deployed to Afghanistan. Unfortunately, during my pregnancy, I ended up with preeclampsia. Luckily, my husband returned the morning of my scheduled induction, so the day he came home from Afghanistan was the day we went to the hospital. 16 hours and a c-section later, we had our beautiful little boy, Benjamin. Being a parent has changed my life. I’ve learned to be more patient; that it’s possible to operate on two hours of sleep, and I’ve also learned that I never really knew what stress was until I experienced a baby crying inconsolably for four hours straight. I’ve learned that looking at my son sleeping in my arms can move me to tears, that I never really loved anyone the way I love my him, and that all of the hard times can be completely wiped away with one little smile. The last four months have been an incredible journey, and I can’t wait to share the rest of it with you!

A Day Off

The hourglass was one of my favorite finds :)

This past month, our car came due for its 90k check-up.  The downside is the closest dealership is in Wilmington.  The upside is that the dealership is in Wilmington.  Not wanting to hang out at the dealership for hours with my little entourage, I arranged for one friend to watch Nathan after preschool, and another to come watch the little two.  I also nabbed one of the dealership’s loaner cars for my appointment.  Hooray!  I had a child-free day off in Wilmington!

The car aspect of things was okay – the only problem to report was one that …

Until We Meet Again, Cuddlebugs!

I started blogging in TummyTime when I was four months pregnant. We went through the end of my pregnancy, the end of college, Braylin being born and her first three months. I just thought that was a wild time in my life.

After TummyTime, we moved to Cuddlebugs where we have been for the past year! Together we have been through even more wild times and countless milestones together between Braylin and the children of my fellow bloggers. Braylin’s first smile, food, tooth, step, etc. have all been recorded right here. It is a bittersweet moment to have to walk away from all that we have been through together.

As we …

We Love The Aquarium!

After a few days of being bored with nothing to do, we decided it was high time to get out of the house.  That, and I thought it  was a little mean to have Uncle Sam fly all the way to Jacksonville and then never leave our house.  So, we headed to one of our favorite places – the aquarium!

My kids love the aquarium at Pine Knoll Shores.  It’s about a fifty-minute drive, but there are some good bridges along the way and lots of water to be seen.  There is something about seeing the ocean, sound, river, or pretty much anything bigger than a puddle that makes the ride …

Toothless Wonder No More!!!

He did it!  He finally did it!  That’s right – Joshua finally cut his first tooth this week!  Needless to say, we are really, really excited that our eighteen-month-old is no longer toothless.  It was about time.

He had been feeling badly for the past week or so, but it was hard to tell if he had caught a bug going around or teething.  A slight fever and prodigious runny nose are symptoms of the bug and teething.  Emily had the bug, and we’ve had about a million false starts, so I didn’t think much of it.

When Chad went to check again last night, though, there was definitely something sharp poking …

The Present Thief…

Worn out after all the fun!

When I was pregnant with Braylin, one of my close childhood friends pulled me to the side at an event with a big smile on her face. I remember her exact words… “I have news! Our babies are going to be in the same grade!” I was ecstatic, not only was that a fun way to tell me that she was pregnant, Braylin (who had no name at that moment) was going to have an automatic friend!

Over the weekend, my friend’s daughter (H) celebrated her first birthday. She had a big owl themed birthday party with lots of presents.

She lives …

Uncle Sam Visits

One of the highlights of our recent holidays was having my younger brother Sam come visit.  He is a senior in college and needed a place to stay other than his off-campus apartment.  Since my parents are living in South America, we’re becoming the designated home away from home for the family.  So we were happy to have him come.  Plus, he’s fun, and Nathan, Emily, and Joshua like playing with him.

He spent a few days up in Maryland and Virginia visiting other family the week before Christmas and then came back late on Christmas Eve.  On Christmas morning, the kids were really excited that Santa had filled a stocking …
