Cassy Fiano

Hi everyone! My name is Cassy Fiano. I was born in Jacksonville, Florida. My husband and I met when we were twelve, at a birthday party where he fell on the pool deck and broke one of his front teeth. I worked in several different fields until I got married. My husband and I knew that we wanted to have a family and that when we did, I would be a stay-at-home mommy. Last July, we found out I was pregnant, and on the day of my first doctor’s appointment, he deployed to Afghanistan. Unfortunately, during my pregnancy, I ended up with preeclampsia. Luckily, my husband returned the morning of my scheduled induction, so the day he came home from Afghanistan was the day we went to the hospital. 16 hours and a c-section later, we had our beautiful little boy, Benjamin. Being a parent has changed my life. I’ve learned to be more patient; that it’s possible to operate on two hours of sleep, and I’ve also learned that I never really knew what stress was until I experienced a baby crying inconsolably for four hours straight. I’ve learned that looking at my son sleeping in my arms can move me to tears, that I never really loved anyone the way I love my him, and that all of the hard times can be completely wiped away with one little smile. The last four months have been an incredible journey, and I can’t wait to share the rest of it with you!

Ways To De-Stress Around The Holidays

As much as we love the holiday season, it tends to get stressful and can take it’s toll on you and your family. Here are some ways that I have found to help combat that stress and get you back in the true Christmas spirit!

Give your child(ren) a huge bear-hug. Simple yet effective, and it works every time!

Think of other ways to show appreciation for someone besides spending money on them — you can cook them a favorite meal, make them a special card, babysit their child for an evening, etc.

Volunteer, be it at a local soup kitchen, animal shelter, nursing home, whatever, because helping others is a main part …

When their favorite word is “No!”

It took Saioa 19 months to discover the power of the word “no”. Before she would just shake her head yes or no, but now she says “no” and it’s become the most common thing that she says.

I think we might be one of the reasons why she says it so much. It’s so darn adorable when she says it cause she over enunciates and it sounds like she has a foreign accent! So every time we ask her a question and the answer is “no”, we immediately start laughing, reinforcing the idea that saying the word “no” must be a good thing.

So when she needs a diaper change and …

Please Don’t Feed The Sharks

Here is the story of how a shark almost had Isaac’s shoe for an appetizer:

While visiting family in Baltimore, we took a trip to our favorite place, the National Aquarium! They were having a dollar day weekend special so you know I was all over that kind of deal. Come on now, regular admission is $25 for adults!

Both that unfortunate shoe and that nervous little fish were possible shark bait!!!

So we got our tickets early to beat the crowd, and embarked upon another exciting meet-up with our favorite fishy friends, but I had no idea it would be THIS exciting!

After checking out the usual suspects, …

Photo Christmas Calendars

You're gonna love it!

Everyone has certain family members who are just impossible to shop for. These members either already have everything, or they don’t like anything, or they’re really picky or have really expensive taste. But you can’t just not get them anything, so you end up getting something just for the sake of formality.

Well, my parents are kinda hard to shop for, but I’ve discovered the perfect present for them. A photo Christmas Calendar! They love family pictures, their house is filled with framed pictures of grand kids, kids and other relatives. So, I figured this was something that they would love and enjoy all year …

Time Again For Christmas Cards?

Aren’t Christmas cards fun?  Or Hanukkah, Kwanzaa, or any other holiday cards as well.  They are just so pretty and thoughtful and when I spy one in the mailbox it makes my day! I ooh and ahh over it, show it to Isaac for his ultimate approval, and then hang it up somewhere in the house where I can see it often and be inspired by it’s holiday cheer.

This would make a perfect card!

Note to self, please remember to display or hang up these cards out of reach of said toddler, unless you want them ripped to shreds with bite marks and boogies all over them.

Hiring the Right Babysitter

When you and your husband decide to have a date night, one of the things you have to plan for is finding babysitter. Kevin and I have had just a handful of date nights since we’ve had the girls so it’s not very often that we have to seek one out. If you live in a neighborhood like mine, it’s common to have teenagers that are available to use. I have hired two in the past and this is what I’ve learned:

DON’T hire the teenage babysitter (again) if:

1. She uses Halloween as an excuse to dress like a Hoochie Mama.

2. When you come home from your date, you find she’s …
