A weekend football game with friends in the neighborhood park may be fun, but you should keep safety in mind.
Legs and knees are prime candidates for injury in adult “weekend warriors,” according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
To reduce the risk for serious injury, wear helmets and shoulder pads, and play touch or flag football instead of tackle football. Warm up before playing and stretch after playing.

As long as I can remember I have worked with children. Growing up I loved to baby-sit and assist with day camps during the summer vacations. I was a nanny for three children while I was in college and upon graduation I immediately started my career with the at-risk youth population. While I have always had a soft spot for children I don’t think I realized exactly how “soft” I would become from “mommy emotion”. During an episode of Grey’s Anatomy, I cried like a baby when a child passed away from an illness. Actually, this week’s episode is going to feature some issues with …

The baby I'd do anything to protect
I’m a pretty easy going, laid back girl. Well, I used to be; before I was a Mom. The farther I progress into motherhood, the more I learn that motherhood has certain side effects. First, I talk about my daughters poop a little bit too much. Secondly, I have developed ‘mommy claws.’
One day at the pool little kids were jumping nearby and water from the pool was splashing me. Prior to being a Mom, I wouldn’t have cared if the kids got me wet.
I actually used to hate the crabby adults who would yell at kids for …
Since jogging strollers were developed in 1983, their popularity among parents has increased dramatically.
Today, jogging strollers come in a variety of shapes and sizes to match almost anyone’s needs, including parents with twins or children with physical disabilities.

Use the stroller only for walking or jogging, and not with in-line skates.
Use a wide, gentle arc when turning.
Remind older children not to put their hands and feet near the wheels or spokes.
Be mindful of your child’s comfort, too. Your …

The first Halloween I can remember I was dressed up as Apple Dumpling from Strawberry Shortcake. I had on a plastic pink suit and a plastic Apple Dumpling mask that had a rubber band on the back to keep it over my face. I am so glad that through the years costumes have had an upgrade! We had a great Halloween this year! We started by taking some pictures of Sayle with the pumpkins. He was in awe of the big pumpkin and then tried to investigate it with his tooth. The scenario proved to be a great photo-op. I can’t wait …
It’s ironic. As concern grows over children’s harmful weight, physical education gets less and less emphasis in many schools. In response, there’s more and more interest in fitness programs for kids outside of schools.
An International Health, Racquet and Sportsclub Association survey shows that 4.5 million U.S. kids under age 18 belong to health clubs — up 25 percent in five years. Call it “No Child Left on Their Behind,” says exercise physiologist Jan Schroeder, Ph.D., director of event programming for the IDEA Health and Fitness Association, a fitness professionals’ group.
Local Y’s have offered kids programs for years. Many health clubs are joining them. What should you look for in a fitness …
