Cassy Fiano

Hi everyone! My name is Cassy Fiano. I was born in Jacksonville, Florida. My husband and I met when we were twelve, at a birthday party where he fell on the pool deck and broke one of his front teeth. I worked in several different fields until I got married. My husband and I knew that we wanted to have a family and that when we did, I would be a stay-at-home mommy. Last July, we found out I was pregnant, and on the day of my first doctor’s appointment, he deployed to Afghanistan. Unfortunately, during my pregnancy, I ended up with preeclampsia. Luckily, my husband returned the morning of my scheduled induction, so the day he came home from Afghanistan was the day we went to the hospital. 16 hours and a c-section later, we had our beautiful little boy, Benjamin. Being a parent has changed my life. I’ve learned to be more patient; that it’s possible to operate on two hours of sleep, and I’ve also learned that I never really knew what stress was until I experienced a baby crying inconsolably for four hours straight. I’ve learned that looking at my son sleeping in my arms can move me to tears, that I never really loved anyone the way I love my him, and that all of the hard times can be completely wiped away with one little smile. The last four months have been an incredible journey, and I can’t wait to share the rest of it with you!

My Mommy Cool – 1st Freakout As Sayle Falls (Video)

I believe I am a pretty laid back mom. Rather than jumping immediately when Sayle starts to fussing just because he feels like it, I talk to him until he calms himself down.  I contain myself from bolting to the pediatrician’s office when he has a runny nose. I keep an eye on it and watch to see if there is some logical explanation for his little sniffles such as the cold weather. I also don’t react dramatically if I see him hurt himself in a minor way, I just reassure him that he is okay while giving him a little cuddle or I make him laugh to divert his attention.  When I started back to work I was very sloppy with my morning routine.  I was running late and Sayle decided to have a bad morning–never …

My Husband Has Been Framed!

I blogged before about the gremlins in Sayle’s closet, but it is not just Sayle’s closet-it is actually my whole house that is infested with gremlins.  I have never seen these gremlins, but they play horrible tricks on my husband.  They sit back and wait for the best time to strike in order to make him look bad.

My husband is being framed by this guy!!

My husband is being framed by this guy!!

Sayle was extremely fussy when he had his double ear infections.  After trying to soothe Sayle for about 15 minutes, I asked my husband to please go get a pacifier.  We have approximately one hundred pacifiers in this …

Hang In There! (like the kitty hanging on a branch)

Uh-oh, now what?

Uh-oh, now what?

“Can I just stay here one more day? Please?”

It had been four days since the birth of my son, and despite my husband and mother being there and the hospital staff being friendly and helpful, I was not quite ready to leave.

What if my milk didn’t come in and I couldn’t feed him? How do I hold him? What if I drop him? What if he got sick? What if he didn’t love me as much as I loved him? So many questions; some of them reasonable, others ridiculous, and I was driving myself and everyone around me insane!

Like any …

The Cheese Stands Alone

Nora doesn't need my hand anymore!

Nora doesn't need my hand anymore!

The cheese stands alone, the cheese stands alone! Hi-Ho The dairy-o, Nora stood alone! Can you hear me singing? If not, turn your volume up.

I am so proud of my little Nora. Yesterday Miss Nora stood alone by herself! She’s stood alone before –but not like this. Previously when Nora stood alone it was for a split second and then she promptly threw her body at me. She never looked scared when she did it; she’d have a look of contentment and satisfaction on her face the whole time.

This time Nora held one ball in each hand, pulled herself …

Getting Your Claws Down From The Attic Now That You’re A Mom-Just In Case

If there is one thing I can handle, it is a catty female.  I experienced the typical relational aggression that girls dish out during middle school recess.  I dealt with the “Queen Bee Syndrome” you see in the movie Mean Girls throughout high school and I was also in a sorority in college.  Believe me; I have seen some fangs and claws in my time-Meeeow.

My catty fangs and claws are packed away with my old college books and keepsakes because I am an adult, a professional, and a mother.  Surprisingly, my time in a sorority or my education have not prepared me for the competitive claws I have witnessed since being a mother.

Garrett, Me and Nora

Garrett, Me and Nora

As a first time mom I was very excited to take Nora back to the doctors for the two day checkup. I wanted to know if she was gaining weight and had a million and one questions to ask about infant care.

I was so engrossed with Nora that I forgot that they also needed to check on me.

The nurse remembered. She stopped me mid-question and very firmly told me that she was going to handle me first and then the baby. My husband, Garrett, held my hand as she felt for my uterus. He sat with me when she checked my blood pressure …
