Cassy Fiano

Hi everyone! My name is Cassy Fiano. I was born in Jacksonville, Florida. My husband and I met when we were twelve, at a birthday party where he fell on the pool deck and broke one of his front teeth. I worked in several different fields until I got married. My husband and I knew that we wanted to have a family and that when we did, I would be a stay-at-home mommy. Last July, we found out I was pregnant, and on the day of my first doctor’s appointment, he deployed to Afghanistan. Unfortunately, during my pregnancy, I ended up with preeclampsia. Luckily, my husband returned the morning of my scheduled induction, so the day he came home from Afghanistan was the day we went to the hospital. 16 hours and a c-section later, we had our beautiful little boy, Benjamin. Being a parent has changed my life. I’ve learned to be more patient; that it’s possible to operate on two hours of sleep, and I’ve also learned that I never really knew what stress was until I experienced a baby crying inconsolably for four hours straight. I’ve learned that looking at my son sleeping in my arms can move me to tears, that I never really loved anyone the way I love my him, and that all of the hard times can be completely wiped away with one little smile. The last four months have been an incredible journey, and I can’t wait to share the rest of it with you!

I must do everything myself- I’m almost 2!

I can totally wash my hands myself.

That’s what I feel Saioa would be saying to me if she could talk like an adult. She’d be stomping her little foot, wagging her little finger at me saying “I’m not a child anymore Mom! I can do that myself!”

She is at that stage where she must do things on her own and refuses help from anyone. She wants to get in her booster seat and buckle herself in without any help. She demands certain coats and sweaters and puts them on herself  (tries at least, I have to sneak in help). Of course she has to eat herself. …

Too Many Tutus

If you are raising two princesses like I am, you might understand why I have accumulated way too many tutus over the years. I’ve been on a mission lately to purge all of the closets in our home. I’ve titled my mission “The Home Project”, and it’s all in an effort to make the move to our next duty station next summer as easy as possible. I am getting rid of stuff that we don’t use and a lot of that stuff is girls clothing.

So as I’m going through Saioa’s closet, I notice that she has an awful lot of tutus. They’re all so adorable but really she only wore …

My Dog Eats Poopy Diapers

It's scary that he likes to eat poop

Kona is our wonderful dog whom we have no complaints against (for the most part). He is sweet and gentle with the girls, he doesn’t chew anything up, he doesn’t have accidents in the house, he doesn’t have separation anxiety and he gets along great with other dogs. He does have one extremely gross quality about him though, and that is that he likes to eat poopy diapers!

It’s absolutely gross and disgusting. He waits till he’s home alone and then will fetch a diaper out of the diaper pail, eat what’s inside and most of the diaper itself, then …

Backseat Driver in Training

Have you ever driven with a backseat driver…. or worse, are YOU a backseat driver? I’ve known several throughout my life. My Dad is the worst one I know because no matter who’s driving, he will always be telling you when to slow down or speed up, warning you if the light is red or just turned green or tell you when it’s safe to change lanes. During all this he also critiques the other drivers that are on the road. My mom is more passive, but she’s just a nervous passenger so she’s always hitting her imaginary break or telling me to turn the radio down or put the …

The Lollipop Incident

Saioa is taking a “dance” class at the same place that Serophina takes ballet and tap. It’s a half hour class called the Wiggles. It’s similar to Kindermusic and Gymboree Play and Music in that they use instruments and props and the kids are led by a teacher that sings songs.

It’s very cute watching all these little toddlers trying to sing the songs and do the motions all the while watching their peers do the same thing. Saioa loves the big space and she spends about half the class running freely around the room.

The only problem I have, is that at the end of the class, the teacher hands out …

Trick or Treating at the Aquarium

Look what I got!

Saioa’s first Halloween was last year and she really wasn’t old enough to care about what was going on. During the evening festivities, she spent most of the time in her stroller while we took her older sister trick or treating around the neighborhood.

This Halloween she was actually old enough to go trick or treating and it was so much fun watching her discover the process of getting candy. It brought back sweet memories from when Serophina was that age and her first time trick or treating.  This year we went trick or treating at the aquarium and Saioa followed her big sister …
