Cassy Fiano

Hi everyone! My name is Cassy Fiano. I was born in Jacksonville, Florida. My husband and I met when we were twelve, at a birthday party where he fell on the pool deck and broke one of his front teeth. I worked in several different fields until I got married. My husband and I knew that we wanted to have a family and that when we did, I would be a stay-at-home mommy. Last July, we found out I was pregnant, and on the day of my first doctor’s appointment, he deployed to Afghanistan. Unfortunately, during my pregnancy, I ended up with preeclampsia. Luckily, my husband returned the morning of my scheduled induction, so the day he came home from Afghanistan was the day we went to the hospital. 16 hours and a c-section later, we had our beautiful little boy, Benjamin. Being a parent has changed my life. I’ve learned to be more patient; that it’s possible to operate on two hours of sleep, and I’ve also learned that I never really knew what stress was until I experienced a baby crying inconsolably for four hours straight. I’ve learned that looking at my son sleeping in my arms can move me to tears, that I never really loved anyone the way I love my him, and that all of the hard times can be completely wiped away with one little smile. The last four months have been an incredible journey, and I can’t wait to share the rest of it with you!

Did You Say Lice Outbreak?!

Along with the joy of having kids comes the good, bad and the ugly that you mostly catch from other kids. The contagiousness of a snotty nose, strep throat or croup cough doesn’t even compare to the pains and aches of catching lice.I remember having lice when I was a kid…..it’s AWFUL. It took my Mom forever to help me get rid of it after many treatments of soaking my head in chemicals so strong you’d think your nose was about to fall off.Saioa’s older sister, Serophina, goes to kindergarten and the school recently sent home a letter informing us that there was a student that was found to have …

My Little Escape Artist

I'm free!

We have a new heightened awareness in our house after a recent incident. It was a Saturday afternoon and we were all just kind of lounging around the house doing our own thing. Kevin was in and out of the house a lot because he was working on stuff in the garage. Serophina was by his side the whole time, like she usually is when he’s home. Saioa spent half her time outside with Kevin and then inside with me.

Well, there was a moment when I heard Kevin say he was going to brush Kona. I was distracted with something else so a little while …

When Toddlers Insist

This is her insisting she wear her sister's rain coat.

Have you ever thought about what our lives would be like if we gave in to every toddler demand? Mine would be eating junk all the time, the tv would always be on, she’d stay in the same clothes for days and days and we’d never leave the house because she hates getting in her car seat. Thank God I’m in charge and not her!

There are a few things that I do give in on, when she really, really insists on something and I feel it’s harmless or I don’t have the energy to fight back:

1. Wearing a …

Two Kids, A Small Town and Nothing To Do

Please bring more family oriented things to do here!

It is often very frustrating living in a small town like this one. There is nothing to do around here. It’s the perfect little community if you are looking to retire in a quiet area. Because that’s exactly what it is…. quiet. Our biggest event comes around once a year and that’s the Seafood Festival. There are a couple little museums, if you can even call it that. We’ve been there endless times and have memorized every inch of them. The History Place, as charming as it is, takes about 10 minutes to walk through. The Maritime Museum takes …

What Exactly is Your Hair Doing?

So cute.... crazy hair or not!

The state that Saioa’s hair is in right now can only be described as uncouth. It’s out of control, crazy and different lengths in different places.

It’s really long in the back, so that we can easily put into a ponytail or pigtails. But on top and in the front, it’s really short. So when we do put it up, it looks kinda funny because you have two different hairstyles going on on one little head.

We should probably cut it in the back and even things out a bit, but it took so long for her grow hair in the first place …

My Take On TV

There are two times a day when the TV really comes in handy for me, in the morning before school and in the afternoon before dinner. That’s when I am pressed for time to get certain things done, and the TV allows me to do them by keeping my kids quiet and content. The television has gotten such a bad rap that I’m afraid to even mention that I let my kids watch TV in fear that I’ll be misjudged. But there are times when I am so grateful for the convenience of putting on a children’s show or movie so that I can have a few minutes of peace …
