Cassy Fiano

Hi everyone! My name is Cassy Fiano. I was born in Jacksonville, Florida. My husband and I met when we were twelve, at a birthday party where he fell on the pool deck and broke one of his front teeth. I worked in several different fields until I got married. My husband and I knew that we wanted to have a family and that when we did, I would be a stay-at-home mommy. Last July, we found out I was pregnant, and on the day of my first doctor’s appointment, he deployed to Afghanistan. Unfortunately, during my pregnancy, I ended up with preeclampsia. Luckily, my husband returned the morning of my scheduled induction, so the day he came home from Afghanistan was the day we went to the hospital. 16 hours and a c-section later, we had our beautiful little boy, Benjamin. Being a parent has changed my life. I’ve learned to be more patient; that it’s possible to operate on two hours of sleep, and I’ve also learned that I never really knew what stress was until I experienced a baby crying inconsolably for four hours straight. I’ve learned that looking at my son sleeping in my arms can move me to tears, that I never really loved anyone the way I love my him, and that all of the hard times can be completely wiped away with one little smile. The last four months have been an incredible journey, and I can’t wait to share the rest of it with you!

Things I Absolutely Love

Pretty much any moment that involves these two is a good one.

You know those moments that consistently blanket your heart with an incredible feeling of warmth and contentment? The following are a list of mine, the things I love:

1. Watching my girls play. I love the giggles and belly laughs that come from them chasing each other around or doing silly things to make the other laugh. It’s truly priceless.

2. The time in between bath and bed, when they are clean and smelling like Johnson & Johnson, with wet hair and in their jammies. It’s like they’ve washed off the cares of the day along with …

The Issue of Sharing

The purple one's mine. The blue one too. And the red one. Yep the green one too. Mine. All mine.

I will just come right out and say it. My daughter Saioa does not share. And she has no interest in learning how.

I’ve learned from experience there’s really no point in expending precious energy trying to teach this age group to share. I don’t think they understand it. They don’t get the concept of “let’s be nice and not hoard things because that’s frowned upon in society”.

Saioa especially is not much of a sharer because she has an older sister that is almost constantly taking things …

If The Shoe Fits

These were getting small but she wore them for 4 months!

Isn’t it funny how certain body parts on a baby will grow on their own time frame, separate from the rest of the body? For example, when Serophina reached about one year old, her lower body seemed to grow faster than her upper body. So all of her shirts were a size 12months but the bottoms were 18months. Some kids may wear 2t in clothing but have 4t in hats. Some have longer legs, some have shorter arms. In a one size fits all world of children’s clothing, that’s hardly the case.

For both my girls …

My Toddler And Her Dog

We have a family dog, his name is Kona. He is a lab/rott mix and I got him from the shelter when he was just 7 weeks and 4 pounds. That was 2 and a half years ago and he has been great to our family. He is calm and sweet as can be around the girls, somehow sensing that they are little, therefore always being gentle around them.

Saioa has taken dog ownership to a whole new level though. I think she thinks that Kona is just hers and considers him her best friend. We’re used to him always being around us, but when she gets sight of him first …

Not Ready Yet. Third Night, Paci’s Back.

She just wasn’t ready to give it up and I respect that. Kevin and I have differing opinions on this, he thinks the younger you take it away from them, the easier a time they’ll have with it. I totally disagree. I feel that when they’re older, they’re more capable to cope with the feelings of not having a pacifier.

Our baby was cranky for three days and just wasn’t able to soothe herself when it came time to go to bed. How could she, she’s only 18 months! It’s amazing the affect a pacifier has on a child. She is not attached to it during the day, she just wants …

False Alarm. Second Night Without A Paci

Read about Saioa’s first night without a pacifier here.

We thought we had just dodged a bullet. She went down like a dream without her pacifier. It was so perfect that I didn’t even feel the need to go to the store and buy new ones nor did I feel motivated to try and find her lost ones. Unfortunately, that first night of paci-free bliss was a false alarm.

The next day for her nap she went down great again. But come night time, it was a different story. She was cranky and didn’t understand why. When normally she wants to be put in her crib to go to bed, …
