Mamta Singh

My name is Mamta Singh, I am a stay at home mom to two beautiful girls, 4 year old Serophina and 1 year old Saioa. They keep me on my toes and between the two of them, there is never a dull moment in our house. I am originally from Dallas, Texas but have lived in amazing places such as Alaska, Hawaii and now Coastal North Carolina. My husband and I have been together for 12 years and thought we lived pretty adventurous lives until we became parents! I consider myself a foodie, always open to new and different culinary experiences. If I could live at a Starbucks, I would. I am a terrible procrastinator but deep down I’m a meticulous organizer. I enjoy my job as CEO of my household but before that I was a Corporate Educator for Blue Cross Blue Shield Hawaii. I was very fortunate to have the option of staying at home with my daughters and now receive my paycheck in the form of hugs & kisses! Some other things I love: travel, reading, live music, planning parties and spending quality time with friends and family! Like other moms, I do my best to provide a healthy, stimulating and loving environment for my kids and I look forward to sharing my experiences with you!

Bringing Out My Inner Mama Grizzly

I am not a fan of taking Ben to the doctor’s office. I love his pediatrician, but my husband is almost always working during appointments. And this, of course, means that I am the one who gets stuck holding Ben down and crying while he gets his shots. I dread it every single time. Does it become something you get used to, I wonder? Or am I going to cry every time he gets a shot?

Anyways, about two weeks ago, I brought him in to be checked out. He had been coughing a lot, was congested, wasn’t eating as much as normal, and was having diarrhea constantly. He wasn’t too fussy, but he …

Temper Tantrums

There have been quite a few posts recently about temper tantrums; we wanted to provide some information about what causes these “rants”, tips on how to prevent them and how parents should react to them. We welcome your feedback to this information!

What are temper tantrums?

Temper tantrums are a way a young child lets out strong emotions before he/she is able to express them in socially acceptable ways. Although a child may seem totally out of control, these fits of rage, stomping, screaming, and throwing themselves to the floor are a normal part of childhood development. Temper tantrums often occur only with a parent. They are a way a child communicates …

TV and Toddlers

Television is an important part of our culture. Next to the family, some experts believe that television can be the biggest influence on children. Even infants and toddlers have been swept up by popular TV shows marketed as “educational” programming. But are our babies really ready?

As child development experts continue to study how babies and young children grow and develop, the TV issue becomes even more complex. The need to weigh the pros and cons of children’s TV habits has become more important.
A warning for parents
The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) says that children under 2 shouldn’t be allowed to watch television. That’s because a child’s brain grows so quickly during …

Counting My Blessings

There's a lot to be happy about!

I’ve kept a journal ever since I can remember. It’s always been like therapy to me and I like feeling light inside after I’ve unloaded everything onto paper. Every now and then I’ll run across an old journal and read through all the entries. Here’s a page I found where I had made a list of all the good things in my life and titled it “Counting my blessings.” I think I’m going to keep it out and refer to it whenever I’m feeling down. Here are some things I am thankful to have:

1. Good parents who love me and raised …

Biting

Children who bite others cause a great deal of concern for the parents (and have been for some of our own bloggers!). The parents of the child who has been bitten are also usually very concerned about infection. Biting is an unacceptable behavior that needs to be stopped at an early age to prevent further occurrences.
Why young children bite:
Although biting is fairly common in young children, it is often worrisome to adults. A family member, playmate, or classmate at daycare or preschool may be the one bitten. Biting can be painful and frightening when it occurs. It upsets other children and often angers teachers and other adults.

Biting is usually caused by one of …

Breast Is Best But It’s Getting Old

This stuff can be a weary mom's best friend.

Saioa recently had her four-month checkup and I’m happy to say that she’s growing beautifully, as happy and healthy as can be. During her appointment, the Pediatrician asked how long I was planning to breastfeed for. I told him that because I’m a stay at home mom, I was willing to nurse for as long as it is recommended. We went over some things and my conclusion in regards to breastfeeding is this: I definitely am planning to breastfeed exclusively until she’s six months old. After six months, I’ll start supplementing with baby foods and other solids. I’d like …
