Serophina’s birthday is upon us again. She is going to be FIVE YEARS OLD. Even as I type that in bold, black letters, I can’t believe it. Forget about the fact that she’s in kindergarten. That’s a whole other world filled with new stories and experiences. Stay tuned for my guest blogs on JustKiddin to read about those! For now let’s talk about the party. In previous years it was easy to know who to invite. She was in preschool three days a week and I followed the rule of inviting the number of friends equal to the child’s age. Also, in preschool it was easy to slip the invitations …

Saying bye isn't easy
Preschool has finally ended and Serophina’s last day was a reminder of how much I hate goodbyes. Even though she will still be in preschool next year, a lot of her little friends won’t be. She was in the pre-k combo class, which means that half the kids were going to be starting kindergarten in August.
On the last day of school, her class had a huge party complete with bouncy houses and pizza…. it was a blast and all the kids had a great time. As I sat with the other parents and watched the kids play, I felt sad that only half of …

Michael napping on the floor with a few of his friends.
For a two year old, Michael has a lot of friends. Our neighborhood is home to many families with children his age. We attend a weekly play-date in our neighborhood, story-time at the library, and frequent the park on most afternoons. Michael is well socialized and talks about his friends when he’s by himself at home.
Enough said about his neighborhood friends. Lets get on with the important stuff, like his real “friends”. They go by the names of Mr. Teddy and Mr. Lion. That’s right, they are Michael’s favorite stuffed animals. It’s not a night’s sleep …

Michael playing with our neighbors.
As I mentioned in a previous post, we’re moving to a new duty station this spring. I’m excited to move; we’ll be closer to family, we like the area where we’ll be living, and Charlie won’t be deploying. Along with the excitement come a few worries too.
What concerns me most about our next duty station is our future neighborhood. We don’t know where we’ll be living yet; it’s still too soon to say. Our current neighborhood is the greatest for young families, children, and housewives like myself (if that’s what you want to call me). I fear that we won’t find the same neighborhood …

What great game-time atmosphere...Here we go!
It’s been great being in Pittsburgh during this exciting time for the city. In case you live under a rock, or just don’t follow sports, the Pittsburgh Steelers are going to be in the Super Bowl tomorrow! Since I was born and raised in Pittsburgh and Charlie attended high school in the city, we are Steelers’ fans.
When Michael was five months old, the Steelers won the Super Bowl. I have pictures of him dressed in black and gold with a Terrible Towel draped across his high-chair. Now, it’s Maeve’s turn. For the AFC Championship game against the New York Jets, Maeve sported her …

The day after Maeve was born.
I recently went to a baby shower for a friend. Lindsay is expecting her first baby, a girl, in late February. She and her husband are ecstatic to welcome baby Elaina into this world and I felt privileged to be a part of the celebration.
Lindsay had a great turn out for her shower. She had friends from several social circles; I knew the girls from our neighborhood and our husbands’ work, but there were several I didn’t know. It was an enjoyable afternoon without the kids, and I’m grateful to Charlie for affording me the opportunity.
Including Lindsay, there were at least six other …
