Cassy Fiano

Hi everyone! My name is Cassy Fiano. I was born in Jacksonville, Florida. My husband and I met when we were twelve, at a birthday party where he fell on the pool deck and broke one of his front teeth. I worked in several different fields until I got married. My husband and I knew that we wanted to have a family and that when we did, I would be a stay-at-home mommy. Last July, we found out I was pregnant, and on the day of my first doctor’s appointment, he deployed to Afghanistan. Unfortunately, during my pregnancy, I ended up with preeclampsia. Luckily, my husband returned the morning of my scheduled induction, so the day he came home from Afghanistan was the day we went to the hospital. 16 hours and a c-section later, we had our beautiful little boy, Benjamin. Being a parent has changed my life. I’ve learned to be more patient; that it’s possible to operate on two hours of sleep, and I’ve also learned that I never really knew what stress was until I experienced a baby crying inconsolably for four hours straight. I’ve learned that looking at my son sleeping in my arms can move me to tears, that I never really loved anyone the way I love my him, and that all of the hard times can be completely wiped away with one little smile. The last four months have been an incredible journey, and I can’t wait to share the rest of it with you!

Lowe Family Fight Club

Growing up with two sisters and NO brothers, I am constantly being introduced to new things that I never did as a kid.  My sisters and I fought, of course, but it was usually over clothes or shoes or Barbies and our fights usually consisted of one of us screaming at each other for a long time and then the other slamming her bedroom door to stop the noise.  We hardly ever got physical, and if we did it was extremely rare!  To be honest, I can only think of ONE time when ANY of us girls got physical with each other and it didn’t last …

What’s Worse, The Mullet Or The Bowl Cut?

No, this is not a trick question.

Yes, I know they are both somewhat unfortunate choices.  Lucky Isaac got to try both!

In a moment of weakness and desperation I finally caved after swearing up and down to prolong the haircut as long as possible, and I somehow ended up with a mullet, then tried to fix said hairstyle, which led to Isaac wearing the awesome bowl cut.

I might add that I have a personal history with both infamous hairstyles, which can still be spotted on a regular basis here (:  If you’ve got, it flaunt it!

I can also proudly admit that my husband used to sport a king daddy mullet, meaning it …

Sleeping Progress

It’s been a full week since I’ve gone all Nazi method on poor August to get him to sleep through the night and I’m happy to report that things are looking UP!!  Granted, we’ve re-arranged just about everyone in the whole house to a different sleeping spot (temporarily) but you gotta do whatcha gotta do, right?

Two weeks before I got really serious about making him sleep through the night, I was allowing him to wake up between 4-6am for a bottle and at that point, he’d end up doing one of two things;  he’d sleep until 6:30, or if I was REALLY lucky, he’d sleep until 8:00!!

Well, the …

Baby Inventions

I was thinking the other day about how things will be easier in the future for parents raising their babies.  Just look at all the modern day advantages our generation has, like Bumbo chairs, baby monitors, and disposable diapers, to name a few.

When my mom had me in 1979, mothers were being advised to place their infants on their TUMMIES to sleep instead of on their backs and nursing your baby in public was unheard of.  My, how things have changed!  I am curious to see how things are when I have grandchildren…

Hey great ideas, Mom, haha!

I came up with some helpful inventions for the next generation; …

Gellin’ Like A Felon

Along with pre-chewing Isaac’s food, using disposable diapers, and many other things I said I would never do, I am now gelling my son’s hair.

Shame on me; I don’t even style my own hair (hello, no maintenance mom haircut!), yet here I am squirting handfuls of gel onto my hands and going to town on Isaac’s fabulous hair.

Actually, Isaac’s hair and it’s fabulousness is the reason why I have begun having to attempt to control it with “ultimate hold styling gel.”

"Ay, you talkin" ta me?

The poor kid’s hair is so long now that not only does it cover his eyes and touch his nose now when it’s …

Baby Brother Example

2 year old Isaak

I’ve enjoyed reading all the posts from my fellow bloggers about swimming for babies, safety in the water, and teaching techniques.  This summer I’ve been working with Jeremiah so he feels more comfortable in the water and nothing seemed to be helping.  I tried all the methods that I read about and I was beginning to run out of patience.

Jeremiah has always been pretty scared of the water so I knew, going into this task, that it’d be a hard one.  All of my other kids would always just jump right in and they felt a little TOO comfortable in the water if …
