I’ve been told that toddlers go through stages of being good and bad eaters. This has been true for Michael. He used to LOVE asparagus, but now that it’s in-season again, I have to bribe him to take a bite. It’s the same with green beans and peas. I’ll prepare the vegetables the same way as I always have, and he still won’t eat them. It’s not just the vegetables. He won’t eat meat either. Steak, pork, and chicken (whether it’s baked, grilled, or fried) don’t do the trick either. If it’s not sausage or Bratwurst, then I’m just out of luck. Charlie and I make him take a few bites …

This was taken from the condo's balcony.
Charlie and I took a trip to Fort Lauderdale for a few days while my parents kept Michael with them in Pittsburgh. We are so fortunate to have my parents to enable us some quality time to ourselves. Maeve is still breastfeeding and can’t be away from me for too long. Regardless, she’s really easy and we thoroughly enjoyed our time away.
We stayed at a friend’s condominium right on the Atlantic Ocean. From the condo’s front door, we looked down on the Inter-coastal waterway and from the back porch we could throw a stone into the ocean. The weather was 80 degrees …

Charlie feeds Maeve cereal.
Our recent wedding day was full of excitement and emotion. It wasn’t our special day, but almost as memorable.
Michael and Maeve did a great job for my parent’s friends who watched them while we attended the wedding. I was confident that they were in good hands and that everything would go smoothly. I had three bottles pumped for Maeve, she’s also now eating baby cereal, and can fall asleep in the crib on her own. And as long as Michael has someone to play with, he’s good to go.
The Sullivans, my parent’s dear friends, came over before we had to leave for the wedding ceremony. …
Maeve will be 6 months this month. I can’t believe the time is passing so quickly. As trite as it may be, it feels like I brought her home from the hospital just a few weeks ago. Now, she’s too big for 6 months-size clothes.
As she approaches the six-month mark, I am faced with a big step in her development: introducing baby cereal to her diet. When my son was this age, he was already eating cereal. Michael also could eat 24/7 as a baby and is still a big eater as he grows into a little boy.
Maeve’s a great sleeper, so I’m not inclined to give her cereal in hopes …

Maeve didn't cry once during the entire time it took me to run the marathon.
As did Kelly Mulder, I also ran the Marine Corps Marathon on Halloween. The race left me achy in my joints, but other than that, I felt great … considering what I just accomplished!
The night after the marathon I stayed at my sister-in-law’s house to rest before the drive back down to Jacksonville. Upon our arrival, I needed to feed Maeve. She had only eaten a few times that day and it was past six in the evening. I told Liz that Maeve needed to eat and she looked at …

No wasted food for this one (and his cheeks)
Babies are born something of a work in progress. Their eyesight isn’t fully developed, they have little to no control over their movements, and even their skull is not yet fully formed. Eventually it all comes together, but for the first few months (and years) their little bodies are still putting it all together.
One part of a baby’s development that was a particular difficulty with Nathan and Emily was their little digestive systems. At the top of your stomach is a valve, or sphincter, that prevents food from coming back into your esophagus from your stomach. In …
