Ashley Mozingo

Hi everyone! My name is Ashley, and I am a stay at home mom to two girls, Paislee, 3 and Keely, 1. My husband is in the Coast Guard, and is currently stationed at a Coast Guard unit on Camp Lejune. We have been married for five years now and have spent two of those years in Alaska, where Paislee was born, and two in Maine, where we had Keely. We were lucky to get stationed here in 2012, and call North Carolina "home". We were both born and raised in different cities in eastern North Carolina, and we are super excited to get to spend some time here with our girls and introduce them to some of our favorite places that we had as children. Before I met my husband, I attended East Carolina University, where I earned my Bachelors Degree in Communications. I have a love for writing, and a huge passion for being a mom, so I am thrilled to have the opportunity to write about my experiences and exciting moments of this rocky ride that we all call 'Motherhood'.

Kids Making Their Own Decisions

As my little ones get older, it is nice for them to make their own decisions. It is so hard to guess what they might want to eat so now they can give me suggestions. It is funny that picking the right flavor ice cream as a kid is the hardest decision, until the other day.

I was struggling to get a hair appointment for my girls so I had my mother-in-law take them. My daughter decided to get bangs and my other daughter decided she wanted her hair short. It just made me think that they are getting so mature to make a grown up decision. I was concerned that …

Bath Toy Bummer

If you are a mom to a toddler, you probably have in your bath tub (or perhaps your kid’s) a plethora of bath toys.  In our case, we have toys in all of our tubs so that no matter where the kids bathe, they will have something to play with.  I’m not really sure whatever happened to just the throw away cup because that it what I used to use growing up for entertainment in the tub.  Our children have stacking cups with small holes, squirty fish, rubber duckies, etc.  Nothing frustrates me more though at the inability to get the inside of these toys as clean …

Swallowing My Pride

As parents our job is to take care of our children, no matter what. Well, in this case, it was to care for them financially. In order to pay for my daughters great start to education I had to get a PT job. I had to swallow my pride and take a job that worked with the family schedule that didn’t take a lot of expense in child care. It was a job passing out samples which didn’t exactly need to have a BA in psychology but it was my contribution.I am still struggling to find a balance between a career and caring for everyone with out getting lost in the middle. It is such an impossible decision for me. …

First Year of Dance Class

Last week my youngest daughter Keely started dance class. She has been waiting two years for this day and was so excited!

Ever since she was old enough to show interest, Keely has wanted to take dance! Her sister started taking dance when she turned two, and Keely was still a baby but LOVED to watch. Last year, Keely was still too young, so she had to continue to watch Paislee’s classes every week, desperately wanting to join in. By the middle of the year, I dreaded dance days every week because it was a fight to keep Keely out of the dance studio while Paislee was in class–she cried the entire …

Trouble with Traffic

Traffic is a general motorist’s source of frustration occasionally.  It’s just a part of life.  However, recently traffic is not just an occasional thing, it is becoming way too  frequent.  Unfortunately, each day going to work I must cross a bridge.  There are only two ways to get to town and either way you must cross a bridge.  The road is currently a two lane road, but they are working on widening it to a four lane.  Nothing has really changed because the workers are all working in the median not blocking traffic.  The only thing that has changed are that drivers are constantly stopping and as …

Birthday Party Budget

I can’t believe my oldest is 5- years-old! This year I decided to not go over board with spending money on birthday decoration or presents. I used Pinterest for decoration ideas and with the frozen theme I was able to use some Christmas decorations for the party.I made everything from scratch: the invitations, capes, goodie bags, party games and decorations. It was a lot of work but at the end of the day it was worth the smile on her face. I made an Elsa cake and was able to spend a $30 or less on the whole party. My husband got involved too. Being a chef it was easy …

An Unwanted Visitor

Last week my youngest daughter Keely developed a little cough. After a couple of days, it turned into a nasty cough with a fever, and with this new respiratory virus going around, I decided to take her in.

Tuesday night, Keely couldn’t sleep very well because she couldn’t stop coughing. She also was running a fever of 102, and she NEVER gets a fever. I was up all night worried about her with this new virus going around, so first thing Wednesday morning, I called the doctor. They got her in immediately and we went in for her appointment. At the end of her appointment we received the results–Strep Throat. Luckily, it …

Time for Discipline

My daughter was in timeout for the first time at school and I thought we should clear up what we expect from her. I reminded her that she need to earn toys and that we could cancel her birthday party if she did not behave. It turn out that she is also trying to do gymnastics at school. Again we told her that gymnastics is not appropriate around other people because you can hurt someone. I told her that she wouldn’t be enrolled again if she continued to do her gymnastics in crowded areas. She understood but still did it again while at a play date. So I think we will stop gymnastics until she can understand to do it …

Mom’s Night Out

With all the craziness since school has started, it has been unbelievably hard to fit in a workout and/or any personal “Mommy” time. I really don’t know who I thought I was kidding when I planned to start getting up at 4:45 a.m. to work out and then shower before work.  This just hasn’t happened for me yet and we have been in school for almost a month. This is probably a sign to me that this may never happen unless I find some source of motivation hiding somewhere.

There has been one thing though that I have held onto which is my Zumba night at church with …

Duties of a SAHM

As a stay at home mom I feel a lot of pressure to have things done around the house when my husband gets home. I feel like since I am home with the kids it is my job to have everything done so that he can relax when he gets off work, but sometimes it just seems to be impossible!

Let me start by saying that I am very thankful and blessed to be able to stay home with my girls. I always wanted to be a stay at home mom or a “housewife” which sounds so much more glamorous than it really is :) . I would not be happy going to …
