Childcare At The Gym: Update
Not too long ago, I wrote about how Saioa hates the daycare at the gym. I felt horrible leaving her there for my hour of working out, but it was a necessary evil in an attempt to shed holiday pounds. Well I’m happy to report that she now happily goes in without a problem! I love that about kids, they are so great at adapting to new situations. It took her about a week to where she wouldn’t cry when I left. The first time it happened my heart melted because she went straight into the arms of Ms.Rhonda, the caregiver, and didn’t even look back at me. I’ve been going regularly for a little over a month, and now she’s at the point where she is actually excited about going! When I say “who wants to go to the gym?”, she shouts “I do!” Then she marches on down
String Cheese Addiction
Saioa has definitely turned a new leaf when it comes to eating especially during dinner time. This may be because she is copying her sister eating or because we make a huge deal every time she takes a bite. Whatever the case may be, I don’t mind one bit because it helps her realize she actually likes food! One thing she is very good at is taking me to the fridge, making me open the door, then getting her favorite snacks out herself. The most popular snack right now is string cheese and she always remembers it’s in there every time she sees me even remotely near the fridge. Now that she has access to the kitchen and can reach the bottom pantry herself, she freely helps herself to other snacks. I consider that a good thing, or else she’d be eating string cheese all the time. Some other regulars
Mamta’s Amazing Laundry Feat
Does the laundry in your house multiply faster than bacteria in a petri dish? Do you ever find yourself increasingly frustrated because you’re running late and you can’t find anything to wear because most of your clothes are in the laundry? Is the carpet in your house disappearing underneath the dirty laundry that has long overflowed out of the basket? Have you ever had to dedicate an entire day just to doing 7 or more loads of laundry….. washing, drying, folding… and maybe putting away? This used to be the story of my life. And then one day, after my umpteenth load of laundry, I decided I didn’t ever want to go through that again. I liked that there were clean towels and sheets, everyone’s dresser was full of clean underwear, and the laundry baskets were all empty. I liked the feeling so much that I wanted it to be
It’s The Weekend, Which Lucky Parent Will Get To Sleep In?
I’m sure that all parents have this question in their heads as the weekend approaches. In my house, we never actually discuss it, but come Saturday morning and we hear that first holler from Saioa at 6am….. both of us pretend that we don’t hear it in hopes that the other one will get up. Kevin and I are up early every morning during the week. He’s up to go to work and I’m up because I’m always at work. On the weekend there’s usually at least one day where he will get up early to go surfing. So that means I’m up early as well so the girls aren’t running a muck by themselves. But then there’s that one day, either a Saturday or a Sunday that either he gets to sleep in, or I do. I think that I get up with the kids most times so that
Did You Say Lice Outbreak?!
Along with the joy of having kids comes the good, bad and the ugly that you mostly catch from other kids. The contagiousness of a snotty nose, strep throat or croup cough doesn’t even compare to the pains and aches of catching lice. I remember having lice when I was a kid…..it’s AWFUL. It took my Mom forever to help me get rid of it after many treatments of soaking my head in chemicals so strong you’d think your nose was about to fall off. Saioa’s older sister, Serophina, goes to kindergarten and the school recently sent home a letter informing us that there was a student that was found to have lice. A couple days later, I talked to her teacher and she said that the one student, had now turned into seven students that had it. Thankfully all the cases were in the higher level classes, but I
My Little Escape Artist
We have a new heightened awareness in our house after a recent incident. It was a Saturday afternoon and we were all just kind of lounging around the house doing our own thing. Kevin was in and out of the house a lot because he was working on stuff in the garage. Serophina was by his side the whole time, like she usually is when he’s home. Saioa spent half her time outside with Kevin and then inside with me. Well, there was a moment when I heard Kevin say he was going to brush Kona. I was distracted with something else so a little while later when I heard the garage door open, I didn’t really think anything of it. Then I realized Saioa wasn’t around. I thought she probably was outside with Kevin. I stopped what I was doing to go check. I was a little horrified when
