Happy Birthday Nathan!
Last week, the day Grandma and Grandpa arrived in fact, Nathan celebrated his fifth birthday! To say he was excited would be quite the understatement. He is, after all, five. The day was a pretty quiet one, starting off with cinnamon rolls with dad for breakfast and playing with Emily and Joshua most of the morning. We had Chick-fil-A for lunch (his request), followed by naptime, then off to meet Grandma and Grandpa. Their favorite restaurant is Mike’s Farm out past the airport, so we had dinner there. Then, it was home for cupcakes and presents. He got some fun presents including more Trio blocks, a few super heroes, and a Playmobil dragon and knight. His big present was a bit of an almost mean trick. He had asked for a bike, and we wanted to be able to go pick it out the day after his birthday. So in
My Kid’s A Genius! Maybe?
My family constantly tells me how intelligent my daughter is. She sit’s up straight and everyone says “Oh look at her posture! She’s so smart!” She get’s 7 teeth in 2 months and the response is “Babies her age just don’t do that!” At what point do you listen? Or don’t you? Everyone wants to believe that their child is a genius. It would be great to feel secure in their future. But is there a way to tell? I’m not convinced that my daughter will be a Nobel Prize winner due to her rapid tooth arrival. She was playing on her electric piano the other day though and she could copy every tune I played. That was pretty awesome. But I’m still not convinced she’s Mozart. I choose to roll my eyes at my family’s comments. I prefer not to think about it. I would love for Abigail to
Well Hello Again!
If you don’t recognize me I used to write for tummytime but moved away while my husband deployed for a year, and now I’m back. So guess what that means? My husband is ALMOST back too! Also that I get to join CuddleBugs! Yay! So how about a quick intro? My name is Breanna Sykes. I have a beautiful daughter who will be turning 11 months in a couple of days. I have been a temporarily single mom since 10 weeks after Abigail was born. My husband deployed and I moved back to NY to be surrounded by family. I have been blessed with an angel. Seriously, my daughter is awesome. At 2 weeks old, she decided she was going to sleep through the night and has kept up with it ever since. She’s always smiling and rarely cries. She knows some sign language to let me know when she
I Love To Watch Her Change, But Really Don’t Want Her To
The miracle of watching your sweet child learn and grow is incomparable. To see those wheels turn and watch that face as she realizes she just handed herself a toy, or tasted bananas for the first time is something that Hallmark cards and diaper commercials are made of! It is a parent’s salary paid in full, all of your hard work and long hours do not go unnoticed. Time, unfortunately, does not stop for us parents who wish to hold on to every snuggle, coo and “first.” I have been trying very hard to document all of my little one’s milestones with photos, and noting the dates she first rolled over or popped out that first tooth. We recently purchased a video camera as a last ditch effort to hold on to as much of her “babiness” as possible. We have yet to crack open and fill the many baby
Joshua and The Pediatrician
This week, Joshua had his eighteen-month well-baby visit. While I really don’t like going to the pediatrician’s office, I am always curious to see how they’re growing and developing. It *almost* makes up for the ridiculously long wait. There were no major surprises this time. Joshua is still big. Twenty-eight pounds, two ounces and nearly thirty-four inches big. He’s at least seventy-fifth percentile across the board, with his height coming in closer to ninetieth percentile. No wonder I feel like I’m feeding a bottomless pit – he is one! They went through the standard developmental questions – how many words does he speak, does he know at least two body parts, is he a good sleeper, etc. He did well on all of them. I was also given an evaluation to fill in to assess for autism. I was relieved that he passed with flying colors. She was surprised to
Until We Meet Again, Cuddlebugs!
I started blogging in TummyTime when I was four months pregnant. We went through the end of my pregnancy, the end of college, Braylin being born and her first three months. I just thought that was a wild time in my life. After TummyTime, we moved to Cuddlebugs where we have been for the past year! Together we have been through even more wild times and countless milestones together between Braylin and the children of my fellow bloggers. Braylin’s first smile, food, tooth, step, etc. have all been recorded right here. It is a bittersweet moment to have to walk away from all that we have been through together. As we prepare for the next chapter in our lives, we have to say goodbye for now. We will have to conquer the next few milestones on our own. Between living with my parents for a few months, moving to South
