Ashley Mozingo

Hi everyone! My name is Ashley, and I am a stay at home mom to two girls, Paislee, 3 and Keely, 1. My husband is in the Coast Guard, and is currently stationed at a Coast Guard unit on Camp Lejune. We have been married for five years now and have spent two of those years in Alaska, where Paislee was born, and two in Maine, where we had Keely. We were lucky to get stationed here in 2012, and call North Carolina "home". We were both born and raised in different cities in eastern North Carolina, and we are super excited to get to spend some time here with our girls and introduce them to some of our favorite places that we had as children. Before I met my husband, I attended East Carolina University, where I earned my Bachelors Degree in Communications. I have a love for writing, and a huge passion for being a mom, so I am thrilled to have the opportunity to write about my experiences and exciting moments of this rocky ride that we all call 'Motherhood'.

Our Alone Time

The first thing my husband and I did with our “freedom” was to go to dinner. Before Abigail we would go out to eat at least once a week. Now the only time we go to dinner is when family is in town.

The thing is, we don’t have that adorable little kid that sits nicely in their high chair and behaves wonderfully at restaurants. We have the wild child. She likes to eat from everyone’s plate but her own, run up and down the isles of stores, and stand on chairs instead of sitting. Our shopping or restaurant outings usually end up with a melt down of some sort.

So we just avoid eating out at restaurants. Which is exactly why it was so nice to go out to eat by ourselves and just enjoy it. We went to Wrightsville Beach and ate at a nice little restaurant on the inlet. It was lovely and very relaxing.

After dinner we decided to go to the movies. Well I practically forced my husband to take me to see The Dark Knight Rises. He wanted to see it too but he’s not a big theater fan. I won so we went to see it. IT WAS AWESOME!!! Tom Hardy played Bane (the bad guy) which was a complete surprise to me. I didn’t know until after the movie who it was but when I found out my jaw dropped. Definitely his best job yet.

So even though I missed my daughter with every inch of my heart I did end up enjoying some freedom.

Do you find a way to get some alone time from your children? What do you like to do to get away?
