We’re On A Plane!
Well, Ben and I are back home in Jacksonville, North Carolina! After two plane rides and several hours of driving, we made it in one piece. The million dollar question, though, is how did Ben do on the plane?
We got to Wilmington last week, and the worst part ended up being getting my luggage, along with my child, from the parking lot up to the ticket counter to be checked. I was able to check two bags, and one of them needed to be Ben’s pack-and-play, so I had to fit everything for the both of us into one suitcase. That one suitcase ended up weighing around 80lbs, so I was lugging Ben, my diaper bag, the suitcase, and the pack-and-play by myself from long-term park (which of course is the furthest away) all the way up to the ticket counter — while pregnant. It was horrible. I was practically crying by the time I got there, and of course, not one person offered to help.
After we got the baggage checked, it was pretty much smooth sailing from then on. We were at the terminal early, so I let Ben play on the floor, because he did not want to sit still. He crawled around, munched on some snacks, and was generally happy and in a good mood, despite being tired.
When the time came for boarding, he was fascinated by everything on the plane: the windows, the armrests, all the little levers and buttons and neat things for him to check out. He wasn’t interested at all in his bottle though, so as we prepared for takeoff, I was definitely nervous. He just kept batting it away, so I gritted my teeth and waiting for the crying to start once his ears began to pop. And… it never came! He never cried, and was happy and playing the entire time on the flight, until he finally passed out on my shoulder about halfway through the trip (which was only an hour anyways).
As we exited the plane, all the passengers around me complimented me on how well-behaved he was, and gushed about how sweet and adorable and happy he had been. I was all smiles exiting that plane!
So of course, I wondered if the flight back would go as well. And for the most part, it did. He fell asleep before takeoff. But unfortunately, there was a toddler sitting directly in front of us that was screaming her lungs off, which woke him up. He cried a few times on the flight, but I was able to calm him pretty quickly, and again, he remained fairly cheerful and happy for the duration on the flight.
It looks like I’ve got a little traveler on my hands! And all of my worrying was apparently for nothing.
