Cassy Fiano

Hi everyone! My name is Cassy Fiano. I was born in Jacksonville, Florida. My husband and I met when we were twelve, at a birthday party where he fell on the pool deck and broke one of his front teeth. I worked in several different fields until I got married. My husband and I knew that we wanted to have a family and that when we did, I would be a stay-at-home mommy. Last July, we found out I was pregnant, and on the day of my first doctor’s appointment, he deployed to Afghanistan. Unfortunately, during my pregnancy, I ended up with preeclampsia. Luckily, my husband returned the morning of my scheduled induction, so the day he came home from Afghanistan was the day we went to the hospital. 16 hours and a c-section later, we had our beautiful little boy, Benjamin. Being a parent has changed my life. I’ve learned to be more patient; that it’s possible to operate on two hours of sleep, and I’ve also learned that I never really knew what stress was until I experienced a baby crying inconsolably for four hours straight. I’ve learned that looking at my son sleeping in my arms can move me to tears, that I never really loved anyone the way I love my him, and that all of the hard times can be completely wiped away with one little smile. The last four months have been an incredible journey, and I can’t wait to share the rest of it with you!

Toddler Teeth and Vitamin D

When Saioa was an infant, her Pediatrician recommended giving her a daily dropper full of vitamin D. Since she was breast fed, she wasn’t getting the extra Vitamin D that was in baby formula.

I did it for about the first year of her life, but when she started eating solids on a regular basis the vitamin D drops sort of fell to the wayside. Hopefully she’s getting enough of it from milk and other dairy products, but I know that the extra vitamin D will only help her when she’s older. Shame on me for letting that go, but I’m hoping that once she’s two years old (which is only in another three months, yikes!) it’ll be easier because I can just give her a Princess gummy vitamin like how Serophina takes.

Another something that I’ve not been vigilant about is brushing her teeth. Now that she has a mouth full of teeth, I should be brushing her teeth twice a day, just like how Serophina does. The only problem, is that I am so used to focusing on Serophina’s bedtime routine of potty, teeth and book, that Saioa doesn’t get her teeth brushed. In the morning we seem to always be rushing to get Serophina to school on time so there’s definitely not enough time to brush Saioa’s teeth.

I know, excuses…excuses! And here’s another one: Saioa likes to hold on to her tooth brush even after we’re done brushing her teeth (whenever it does happen). So she’ll end up walking around the house with it, or taking it in the car or something, next thing you know it’s disappeared. So of course, when I want to brush her teeth…..there’s no toothbrush!

Both the vitamins and the teeth brushing are important things, yet I’ve managed to give them a backseat to other things. I’ve enlisted the help of my husband so that if I forget he’ll remind me….. we’ll see how that goes.

How do you make sure the important things get done? Any advice for making their routine more efficient?
