Cassy Fiano

Hi everyone! My name is Cassy Fiano. I was born in Jacksonville, Florida. My husband and I met when we were twelve, at a birthday party where he fell on the pool deck and broke one of his front teeth. I worked in several different fields until I got married. My husband and I knew that we wanted to have a family and that when we did, I would be a stay-at-home mommy. Last July, we found out I was pregnant, and on the day of my first doctor’s appointment, he deployed to Afghanistan. Unfortunately, during my pregnancy, I ended up with preeclampsia. Luckily, my husband returned the morning of my scheduled induction, so the day he came home from Afghanistan was the day we went to the hospital. 16 hours and a c-section later, we had our beautiful little boy, Benjamin. Being a parent has changed my life. I’ve learned to be more patient; that it’s possible to operate on two hours of sleep, and I’ve also learned that I never really knew what stress was until I experienced a baby crying inconsolably for four hours straight. I’ve learned that looking at my son sleeping in my arms can move me to tears, that I never really loved anyone the way I love my him, and that all of the hard times can be completely wiped away with one little smile. The last four months have been an incredible journey, and I can’t wait to share the rest of it with you!

Joshua and The Pediatrician

This week, Joshua had his eighteen-month well-baby visit.  While I really don’t like going to the pediatrician’s office, I am always curious to see how they’re growing and developing.  It *almost* makes up for the ridiculously long wait.

There were no major surprises this time.  Joshua is still big.  Twenty-eight pounds, two ounces and nearly thirty-four inches big.  He’s at least seventy-fifth percentile across the board, with his height coming in closer to ninetieth percentile.  No wonder I feel like I’m feeding a bottomless pit – he is one!

They went through the standard developmental questions – how many words does he speak, does he know at least two body parts, is he a good sleeper, etc.  He did well on all of them.  I was also given an evaluation to fill in to assess for autism.  I was relieved that he passed with flying colors.

She was surprised to hear that his first two teeth had only come in in the last three weeks.  She was even more surprised that his second tooth was a two-year molar.  That’s right – my son’s first tooth is one of the cute, bottom middle teeth.  And his second is a molar that should have been seventeenth in line, not second.

Joshua handled his one immunization like a champion, crying only minimally.  If only his almost-five-year-old brother could do so well.  It was also one of our fastest appointments on record, which is always great.  So, he’s done until his two-year appointment, and after that he only has to go annually.  Hooray!  A healthy, happy baby, and fewer trips ahead of us.  That sounds like a great day to me.

Has your little one been to the pediatrician recently?  How did that visit go?
