Cassy Fiano

Hi everyone! My name is Cassy Fiano. I was born in Jacksonville, Florida. My husband and I met when we were twelve, at a birthday party where he fell on the pool deck and broke one of his front teeth. I worked in several different fields until I got married. My husband and I knew that we wanted to have a family and that when we did, I would be a stay-at-home mommy. Last July, we found out I was pregnant, and on the day of my first doctor’s appointment, he deployed to Afghanistan. Unfortunately, during my pregnancy, I ended up with preeclampsia. Luckily, my husband returned the morning of my scheduled induction, so the day he came home from Afghanistan was the day we went to the hospital. 16 hours and a c-section later, we had our beautiful little boy, Benjamin. Being a parent has changed my life. I’ve learned to be more patient; that it’s possible to operate on two hours of sleep, and I’ve also learned that I never really knew what stress was until I experienced a baby crying inconsolably for four hours straight. I’ve learned that looking at my son sleeping in my arms can move me to tears, that I never really loved anyone the way I love my him, and that all of the hard times can be completely wiped away with one little smile. The last four months have been an incredible journey, and I can’t wait to share the rest of it with you!

It’s A Miracle! She Ate A Black Bean Burger!

Black beans are nutritious and delicious!

Hallelujah! The heavens rejoiced along with me and Kevin, on that special night that Saioa ate an entire half of a black bean burger. Bun and everything! It was such a joyous occasion that I had to write a blog about it.

Night after night, dinner after dinner, my sweet child refuses everything. I refuse to make her a special dinner of chicken nuggets every night when the rest of us eat a real dinner that I cooked. So most of our dinner time is spent coaxing her into eating. Clapping our hands and saying “Good girl!” everytime she brings the food even remotely close to her mouth, hoping that it’ll give her enough encouragement to actually PUT it in her mouth. Sometimes she does, mostly she doesn’t. It’s exhausting!

One night I made black bean burgers and was afraid I would face the same thing at the table with Saioa. She was leerie at first and when I offered her a bite she flat out refused. But then she saw her sister gobble it up, so I think that made her think she might give it a chance. That, and the fact that she didn’t really eat much of her lunch, so she must’ve been hungry come dinnertime.

She lifted the burger to her mouth and quickly took a bite then put it back down. We all went wild at the table in celebration, because that’s what we do to get Saioa to eat. Then she took another bite, and another…… until she finished everything that was on her plate. It was a miracle!

Baby steps is truly what this child is taking when it comes to eating!
