Cassy Fiano

Hi everyone! My name is Cassy Fiano. I was born in Jacksonville, Florida. My husband and I met when we were twelve, at a birthday party where he fell on the pool deck and broke one of his front teeth. I worked in several different fields until I got married. My husband and I knew that we wanted to have a family and that when we did, I would be a stay-at-home mommy. Last July, we found out I was pregnant, and on the day of my first doctor’s appointment, he deployed to Afghanistan. Unfortunately, during my pregnancy, I ended up with preeclampsia. Luckily, my husband returned the morning of my scheduled induction, so the day he came home from Afghanistan was the day we went to the hospital. 16 hours and a c-section later, we had our beautiful little boy, Benjamin. Being a parent has changed my life. I’ve learned to be more patient; that it’s possible to operate on two hours of sleep, and I’ve also learned that I never really knew what stress was until I experienced a baby crying inconsolably for four hours straight. I’ve learned that looking at my son sleeping in my arms can move me to tears, that I never really loved anyone the way I love my him, and that all of the hard times can be completely wiped away with one little smile. The last four months have been an incredible journey, and I can’t wait to share the rest of it with you!

I Love To Watch Her Change, But Really Don’t Want Her To

The miracle of watching your sweet child learn and grow is incomparable.  To see those wheels turn and watch that face as she realizes she just handed herself a toy, or tasted bananas for the first time is something that Hallmark cards and diaper commercials are made of!

It is a parent’s salary paid in full, all of your hard work and long hours do not go unnoticed.  Time, unfortunately, does not stop for us parents who wish to hold on to every snuggle, coo and “first.”

I have been trying very hard to document all of my little one’s milestones with photos, and noting the dates she first rolled over or popped out that first tooth.  We recently purchased a video camera as a last ditch effort to hold on to as much of her “babiness” as possible.  We have yet to crack open and fill the many baby books and albums that were gifted to us as expecting parents, but they are there, waiting.

Nowadays, you don’t even have to break out those scissors and glitter pens. For example, there are websites out there now that will help you to create your very own photo book, complete with commentary, graphics, bound just like a real book and all for a decent price.  A friend of mine who has a kindergartener and a toddler, documents the sweet and sometimes hilarious things that her boys say by writing them on strips of paper and storing them in a whimsy mason jar.  The jar itself is decorative, but serves a meaningful purpose and will surely be treasured for years to come.

What are some ways you try to hold on to these precious moments? Have you ever found yourself feeling melancholy at the thought that they will never be 5, 9 or 12 months old ever again?
