Cassy Fiano

Hi everyone! My name is Cassy Fiano. I was born in Jacksonville, Florida. My husband and I met when we were twelve, at a birthday party where he fell on the pool deck and broke one of his front teeth. I worked in several different fields until I got married. My husband and I knew that we wanted to have a family and that when we did, I would be a stay-at-home mommy. Last July, we found out I was pregnant, and on the day of my first doctor’s appointment, he deployed to Afghanistan. Unfortunately, during my pregnancy, I ended up with preeclampsia. Luckily, my husband returned the morning of my scheduled induction, so the day he came home from Afghanistan was the day we went to the hospital. 16 hours and a c-section later, we had our beautiful little boy, Benjamin. Being a parent has changed my life. I’ve learned to be more patient; that it’s possible to operate on two hours of sleep, and I’ve also learned that I never really knew what stress was until I experienced a baby crying inconsolably for four hours straight. I’ve learned that looking at my son sleeping in my arms can move me to tears, that I never really loved anyone the way I love my him, and that all of the hard times can be completely wiped away with one little smile. The last four months have been an incredible journey, and I can’t wait to share the rest of it with you!

A Visit With Grandma and Grandpa!

Last week, we had some fabulous visitors – Grandma and Grandpa!  Chad’s parents flew out for a long weekend to visit us, celebrate some birthdays, and see our new home.

The kids love to see their grandparents, but with my parents living in South America and Chad’s parents living in Utah, that just doesn’t happen as often as we’d all like.  Thankfully, through the wonders of Skype and FaceTime, we do get to “see” them all fairly regularly.  It’s not quite the same, though.

Chad also grew up in a very closely-knit family.  Both sides of grandparents live five minutes apart from each other.  The entire rest of the Reese family, aunts, uncles, brothers, sisters, and even cousins, all live within thirty minutes of each other.  All of them, except Chad and one of his brothers.  Living this far away from family is hard on Chad and hard on his parents.

So, we love it when Grandma and Grandpa come to visit!  We love to play, eat yummy food, explore eastern North Carolina, and just have fun with them.  I also love having two extra pairs of helping hands around at dinnertime and bedtime.  It’s amazing how much easier the evenings are with double the adults!

Nathan’s favorite thing about their visit was going to the museum (more on that later).  Emily had a great time playing with them (and the new toys they got her!).  Joshua was happy that the good food just kept coming.  He also learned a new word, bapa, which means grandma and grandpa!

We miss them already, but we’re so glad they came to visit.  We love Grandma and Grandpa!

Have you had family visit recently?  Did you have a good visit as well?
