Cassy Fiano

Hi everyone! My name is Cassy Fiano. I was born in Jacksonville, Florida. My husband and I met when we were twelve, at a birthday party where he fell on the pool deck and broke one of his front teeth. I worked in several different fields until I got married. My husband and I knew that we wanted to have a family and that when we did, I would be a stay-at-home mommy. Last July, we found out I was pregnant, and on the day of my first doctor’s appointment, he deployed to Afghanistan. Unfortunately, during my pregnancy, I ended up with preeclampsia. Luckily, my husband returned the morning of my scheduled induction, so the day he came home from Afghanistan was the day we went to the hospital. 16 hours and a c-section later, we had our beautiful little boy, Benjamin. Being a parent has changed my life. I’ve learned to be more patient; that it’s possible to operate on two hours of sleep, and I’ve also learned that I never really knew what stress was until I experienced a baby crying inconsolably for four hours straight. I’ve learned that looking at my son sleeping in my arms can move me to tears, that I never really loved anyone the way I love my him, and that all of the hard times can be completely wiped away with one little smile. The last four months have been an incredible journey, and I can’t wait to share the rest of it with you!

A Day Off

The hourglass was one of my favorite finds :)

This past month, our car came due for its 90k check-up.  The downside is the closest dealership is in Wilmington.  The upside is that the dealership is in Wilmington.  Not wanting to hang out at the dealership for hours with my little entourage, I arranged for one friend to watch Nathan after preschool, and another to come watch the little two.  I also nabbed one of the dealership’s loaner cars for my appointment.  Hooray!  I had a child-free day off in Wilmington!

The car aspect of things was okay – the only problem to report was one that we knew about and that they (quite inexpensively) fixed.  It took about three hours longer than anticipated due to the fixing of the problem, but since I didn’t have little kids who were missing naps or who were hungry, that was fine by me.

The Wilmington aspect of things was awesome.  I got to go to all of my favorite stores (especially since I had some extra time), go to a real grocery store, and do all of this without kids.  It’s amazing how much more you get done when you don’t have to buckle and unbuckle, redirect, find, take away breakable objects, etc from your little ones.  I could get out of the car, go into a store, look at what I wanted, and get back into the car.  It was awesome.

I love my little ones, I really do.  But every now and then, it’s nice to get out without them.  Plus, my car got taken care of, and my mantle is a lot less bare.  It was a great day off.

Have you gotten out without your little ones recently?  Did you enjoy your day off?
