Trying to Climb Out of the Crib
My Saioa is a sweet, sweet girl. She is just so good-natured, gentle and loving….. Kevin and I really lucked out with our girls. Serophina was the same way, we never had to worry about them getting into things or destroying things just cause they could reach it. For example, we’ve put up our Christmas tree with all of our delicate, breakable ornaments and Saioa understands not to touch them. She will admire the ornaments and the lights, but doesn’t try to grab or tug at them. Maybe that’s just how girls are…. I don’t know.
So, imagine my surprise the other day, when I walked in Saioa’s room to get her from her nap and she had her upper body almost completely bent over the outside of the crib. She was trying to escape! She was on her tippy toes, standing on the bumper to give her some height and was literally trying to jump out of the crib. Then the next day when I went to get her, she had her right leg all the way up on the rail, poised like she was going to hop over the rail!
I don’t think she’s quite tall enough to actually get out. Maybe another inch or two though, and we will surely have ourselves a problem. My biggest fear is that she’ll fall out of her crib in an attempt to escape. But she’s way too young to be in a toddler bed. Kevin and I aren’t really sure what to do, we’ve never had to address this issue.
Has your toddler tried to climb out of his/her crib? What did you do? I need advice please!

HI Mamta,
Yikes, I went through the same issue with Isaac when he was about 25 months, and it was not pretty. I got rid of all the bumpers and stuffed animals but he still was attempting escapes, so I caved and made the toddler bed switch. Luckily it wasn’t as bad as I thought, but it was definitely an adjustment! Night time took only 2 evenings to get it, but nap time took almost a week and still is a problem occasionally if Isaac wants to play instead of sleep — good luck!
Hey Sarah! I’m thinking that by 2 we will most likely have to change to a toddler bed, which as you know can be tricky!
I hate to get rid of her bumpers because she sleeps with her face tucked into the corner of the crib….. that would be really uncomfortable for her with no bumpers!
Hopefully she’ll stay put for another few months though!
