Cassy Fiano

Hi everyone! My name is Cassy Fiano. I was born in Jacksonville, Florida. My husband and I met when we were twelve, at a birthday party where he fell on the pool deck and broke one of his front teeth. I worked in several different fields until I got married. My husband and I knew that we wanted to have a family and that when we did, I would be a stay-at-home mommy. Last July, we found out I was pregnant, and on the day of my first doctor’s appointment, he deployed to Afghanistan. Unfortunately, during my pregnancy, I ended up with preeclampsia. Luckily, my husband returned the morning of my scheduled induction, so the day he came home from Afghanistan was the day we went to the hospital. 16 hours and a c-section later, we had our beautiful little boy, Benjamin. Being a parent has changed my life. I’ve learned to be more patient; that it’s possible to operate on two hours of sleep, and I’ve also learned that I never really knew what stress was until I experienced a baby crying inconsolably for four hours straight. I’ve learned that looking at my son sleeping in my arms can move me to tears, that I never really loved anyone the way I love my him, and that all of the hard times can be completely wiped away with one little smile. The last four months have been an incredible journey, and I can’t wait to share the rest of it with you!

Not A Fan Of Brussels Sprouts (Anyone Else Share That Sentiment?)

Good old green veggies — still super healthy and necessary, yet still the bane of Isaac’s existence.  I continue to offer him all sorts of the good stuff, and eat it myself in front of him, but to no avail.  The closest thing I have gotten to a victory would be him eating half a snap pea pod dipped in dressing and several freeze dried peas…pretty pathetic (:

I for one love vegetables, especially the green kind because I know their many benefits, whereas I guess my toddler is not that interested in the different vitamins and minerals and maintaining a healthy weight like his mother.

No, thank you!

Every day there are offerings of deliciousness, such as sauteed garlic mushrooms and spinach, salted kale chips, seasoned green beans, cheesy broccoli, etc.  I have tried every topping or dipping except chocolate, which I am considering at this point, haha.

All things considered, I was not particularly surprised when the Brussels sprouts on Isaac’s plate went untouched, but it was his reaction to seeing a fresh sprig of them that was so amusing.  The look on his face is of pure outrage and disgust, and the expression says Mommy, how dare you?  Get these horrible things out of my presence immediately!

Oh well, it looks like we are still going to be buying stage 3 jars of green beans and peas, and anything else pureed and green I can get my hands on.  Thank goodness he eats other vegetables, like sweet potatoes and tomatoes, but my son is almost 2.5 now, so I was hoping for some progress by now…

So aside from dipping everything in chocolate (which he does love) or trying to hide it, Seinfeld-style, I am out of ideas and options.  I have seen other small children, babies even, chowing down on the green foods like champions, and I am insanely jealous.  Tell me your secrets!!!

Anyone else have a ridiculously picky eater and want to offer me some veggie-themed ideas?
