Cassy Fiano

Hi everyone! My name is Cassy Fiano. I was born in Jacksonville, Florida. My husband and I met when we were twelve, at a birthday party where he fell on the pool deck and broke one of his front teeth. I worked in several different fields until I got married. My husband and I knew that we wanted to have a family and that when we did, I would be a stay-at-home mommy. Last July, we found out I was pregnant, and on the day of my first doctor’s appointment, he deployed to Afghanistan. Unfortunately, during my pregnancy, I ended up with preeclampsia. Luckily, my husband returned the morning of my scheduled induction, so the day he came home from Afghanistan was the day we went to the hospital. 16 hours and a c-section later, we had our beautiful little boy, Benjamin. Being a parent has changed my life. I’ve learned to be more patient; that it’s possible to operate on two hours of sleep, and I’ve also learned that I never really knew what stress was until I experienced a baby crying inconsolably for four hours straight. I’ve learned that looking at my son sleeping in my arms can move me to tears, that I never really loved anyone the way I love my him, and that all of the hard times can be completely wiped away with one little smile. The last four months have been an incredible journey, and I can’t wait to share the rest of it with you!

Keep Your Hands Off My Son (Part 2)

If you missed the first part, you can read it here.

Attack mode, beware!

My breaking point was the other night, while in MD for Thanksgiving weekend, when everyone was downstairs, either watching the game or playing with Isaac and his mountain of toys. Greg was really into the game, and had already gotten snippy with the noise coming from the play area. Suddenly Isaac ran over to him to try and hug him, my brother impatiently pushed my son away, causing him to fall, and I. SAW. RED!  Of course out came Mama Bear, claws and all. There was some yelling and inappropriate language involved from myself, and needless to say Greg was given the boot.

Isaac was totally fine, just brushed it off and quickly went back to playtime, but I was still raging inside, and am still. It’s one thing to want nothing to do with Isaac, which I think is bad enough, but putting your hands on a little one, accidental or not, is completely unacceptable in any circumstance!  I do believe Greg did not mean to cause my son to fall, but that is beside the point.

Normally I am pretty non-confrontational and will go to great lengths to avoid an argument and keep the peace, but when it comes to my child I will go up against anyone or anything to protect him.  It’s sad that the person in question was my own brother though.  I never expected this in a million years, and it’s such a shame because something like this could really come between us unless it is explained and rectified soon.  Greg and I have always had a friendly relationship, I thought.  We have all had our tiffs over the years, as siblings normally do, but this is different and much more serious in my opinion.

So what do you think?  I am certain I did not overreact, in fact I may have actually under reacted and should have dealt with this sooner, but I am wondering what you would have done in this situation, or if you have any ideas what would cause my brother to respond to my son in this manner?
