Cassy Fiano

Hi everyone! My name is Cassy Fiano. I was born in Jacksonville, Florida. My husband and I met when we were twelve, at a birthday party where he fell on the pool deck and broke one of his front teeth. I worked in several different fields until I got married. My husband and I knew that we wanted to have a family and that when we did, I would be a stay-at-home mommy. Last July, we found out I was pregnant, and on the day of my first doctor’s appointment, he deployed to Afghanistan. Unfortunately, during my pregnancy, I ended up with preeclampsia. Luckily, my husband returned the morning of my scheduled induction, so the day he came home from Afghanistan was the day we went to the hospital. 16 hours and a c-section later, we had our beautiful little boy, Benjamin. Being a parent has changed my life. I’ve learned to be more patient; that it’s possible to operate on two hours of sleep, and I’ve also learned that I never really knew what stress was until I experienced a baby crying inconsolably for four hours straight. I’ve learned that looking at my son sleeping in my arms can move me to tears, that I never really loved anyone the way I love my him, and that all of the hard times can be completely wiped away with one little smile. The last four months have been an incredible journey, and I can’t wait to share the rest of it with you!

Holiday Detox

The holidays are over and I feel like a stuffed turkey on Thanksgiving Day. Like so many others, our holidays revolve around fantastic food. We have the most decadent meals that we only make once a year, so no indulgence is spared.

Kevin is our gourmet chef around here and he makes the most delicious lobster bisque on Christmas Eve. We also have lobster tails with lemon butter and of course the best kind of crusty bread we can find. Then on Christmas  he roasts Prime Rib and makes all  the fattening sides to go along with it. At some point before Christmas, I make my traditional indian dinner of Lamb Korma and a buttery, aromatic rice and naan. Then there’s desserts: Cheesecake, Tres Leches cake and custard. On Christmas morning we have French Toast and eggs benedict.

Thank goodness Santa got to his cookies before I did!

All this food makes for days and days of leftovers and late night snacking. And as if that wasn’t enough, we have tons of treats and goodies that only make their appearance during the holidays: hot chocolate, peppermint bark, chocolate truffles, egg nog and SO much more. TOO much more.

Ugh. I have a stomach ache.

After all of this indulging and overeating, I am ready for a major cleanse! I feel the need to go on a juice fast or something dramatic! I feel burdened with extra holiday pounds and am looking forward to eating nothing but salads to detox my poor digestive system. The trauma I’ve put it through!

Did you over-do it like I did for the holidays? How do you plan to “detox”?
