Cassy Fiano

Hi everyone! My name is Cassy Fiano. I was born in Jacksonville, Florida. My husband and I met when we were twelve, at a birthday party where he fell on the pool deck and broke one of his front teeth. I worked in several different fields until I got married. My husband and I knew that we wanted to have a family and that when we did, I would be a stay-at-home mommy. Last July, we found out I was pregnant, and on the day of my first doctor’s appointment, he deployed to Afghanistan. Unfortunately, during my pregnancy, I ended up with preeclampsia. Luckily, my husband returned the morning of my scheduled induction, so the day he came home from Afghanistan was the day we went to the hospital. 16 hours and a c-section later, we had our beautiful little boy, Benjamin. Being a parent has changed my life. I’ve learned to be more patient; that it’s possible to operate on two hours of sleep, and I’ve also learned that I never really knew what stress was until I experienced a baby crying inconsolably for four hours straight. I’ve learned that looking at my son sleeping in my arms can move me to tears, that I never really loved anyone the way I love my him, and that all of the hard times can be completely wiped away with one little smile. The last four months have been an incredible journey, and I can’t wait to share the rest of it with you!

All he wanted for Christmas…

…Was his two front teeth! Okay, so maybe Joshua would rather get a cool car or dinosaur, but what I really wanted for him to get is those still-elusive first teeth. This week, he hits his half-birthday, meaning he’s fully a year behind the average little tike in teething. Plus, I’m pretty sure that I’m about to hit the limit on blog posts about teething.

The two weeks leading up to Christmas were so promising – he was finally teething.  Now I know that for most moms, teething is one of the worst things their babies go through.  Around here, though, we’re just ready for teeth, regardless of the accompanying unpleasantness.  He displayed the classic Reese teething symptoms.  He ran a fever, had a funny nose, had diarrhea, and was generally thoroughly miserable to be around.  He wanted me to hold him all day, everyday.  It was not fun.

So what came of it all?  Nothing yet, sadly.  The bumps in his gums are becoming more pronounced, and you can tell that those teeth are coming.  But still no front teeth, side teeth, or back teeth.  He’s still as toothless as a newborn.

So, we go back to waiting and hoping that those two front teeth (and the rest of the lot) make their appearance soon.  I can’t imagine that it won’t come up at his eighteen-month well-baby visit.  What kid doesn’t have teeth long before this?  It was time for them to come in a full year ago, and I don’t want to still be wishing for his two front teeth at Christmas next year.

Please tell me someone else out there had a super-late teether too!  Anyone?
