Cassy Fiano

Hi everyone! My name is Cassy Fiano. I was born in Jacksonville, Florida. My husband and I met when we were twelve, at a birthday party where he fell on the pool deck and broke one of his front teeth. I worked in several different fields until I got married. My husband and I knew that we wanted to have a family and that when we did, I would be a stay-at-home mommy. Last July, we found out I was pregnant, and on the day of my first doctor’s appointment, he deployed to Afghanistan. Unfortunately, during my pregnancy, I ended up with preeclampsia. Luckily, my husband returned the morning of my scheduled induction, so the day he came home from Afghanistan was the day we went to the hospital. 16 hours and a c-section later, we had our beautiful little boy, Benjamin. Being a parent has changed my life. I’ve learned to be more patient; that it’s possible to operate on two hours of sleep, and I’ve also learned that I never really knew what stress was until I experienced a baby crying inconsolably for four hours straight. I’ve learned that looking at my son sleeping in my arms can move me to tears, that I never really loved anyone the way I love my him, and that all of the hard times can be completely wiped away with one little smile. The last four months have been an incredible journey, and I can’t wait to share the rest of it with you!

15 Month Appointment…Who Knew?

15 months already!
A few days ago, Braylin woke up with a nasty cough and a runny nose. Ryan and I agreed that we had never heard her sound like that before and we should call the doctor. I went ahead and made an appointment for that morning to get everything checked out so that we could get back to our move as quickly as possible.

We checked in at the pediatric clinic and took a seat away from everyone else in hopes that the kiddos wouldn’t share germs with one another. When we got back to see the doctor, the first question she asked is if Braylin had already received her 15 month shots. As a matter of fact, she had not. I was positive that she didn’t need more shots until 18 months. Wrong again… story of my life!

After the doctor checked Braylin out and diagnosed her with a little virus that is going around, she sent us on our way to the immunization clinic. I learned that as long as you don’t have a fever, you can be a little sick and get vaccinations.

We got to the immunization clinic and the receptionist told me which shots she would be getting which included the vaccination for chicken pox. You see, I have never had chicken pox or the vaccine so Braylin getting the vaccine meant I needed to go ahead and get the vaccine as well. Why? Apparently, there is a tiny chance that a person that receives a live vaccine can pass along the virus. Again, there is a very small chance that it could happen, but getting chicken pox as an adult is not something that I wanted to chance.

We both received our shots, played with stickers for a few minutes and carried on with our lives.

I believe that everything happens for a reason and I have to believe that Braylin woke up sick so that we could both get our shots. Otherwise, I would have been atleast three months behind getting Braylin’s 15 month shots and checkup.

How do you keep up with all of the shots that little ones need these days?
