Cassy Fiano

Hi everyone! My name is Cassy Fiano. I was born in Jacksonville, Florida. My husband and I met when we were twelve, at a birthday party where he fell on the pool deck and broke one of his front teeth. I worked in several different fields until I got married. My husband and I knew that we wanted to have a family and that when we did, I would be a stay-at-home mommy. Last July, we found out I was pregnant, and on the day of my first doctor’s appointment, he deployed to Afghanistan. Unfortunately, during my pregnancy, I ended up with preeclampsia. Luckily, my husband returned the morning of my scheduled induction, so the day he came home from Afghanistan was the day we went to the hospital. 16 hours and a c-section later, we had our beautiful little boy, Benjamin. Being a parent has changed my life. I’ve learned to be more patient; that it’s possible to operate on two hours of sleep, and I’ve also learned that I never really knew what stress was until I experienced a baby crying inconsolably for four hours straight. I’ve learned that looking at my son sleeping in my arms can move me to tears, that I never really loved anyone the way I love my him, and that all of the hard times can be completely wiped away with one little smile. The last four months have been an incredible journey, and I can’t wait to share the rest of it with you!

Things I Absolutely Love

Pretty much any moment that involves these two is a good one.

You know those moments that consistently blanket your heart with an incredible feeling of warmth and contentment? The following are a list of mine, the things I love:

1. Watching my girls play. I love the giggles and belly laughs that come from them chasing each other around or doing silly things to make the other laugh. It’s truly priceless.

2. The time in between bath and bed, when they are clean and smelling like Johnson & Johnson, with wet hair and in their jammies. It’s like they’ve washed off the cares of the day along with the dirt on their bodies, ready to recharge in their sleep and do it all over again the next day.

3. The last thing I do at night before I go to bed is check on my sleeping beauties. I turn off the TV, turn off all the lights in the house, make sure the doors are locked, turn down the AC, and then I peek in on the girls. First Serophina, then Saioa, and to see them in such a deep, peaceful sleep…. comfortable and safe, warms my heart to no end. It’s the best- last thing to do before I go to sleep. A great reminder of how lucky I am!

4. In the morning when they wake up, they are both instantly full of energy. Most times I walk in Saioa’s room to her jumping up and down in her crib with a giant grin on her face. But when they wake up from a daytime nap, it takes them a few minutes to actually wake up. They are quiet and want to be held, and I love these moments of cuddling… plain and simple.

5. I love watching them devour a meal that I’ve made for them. So many of our meals are spent with me trying to coax them into eating, or picking out parts that they don’t like or refuse to try. So when I can put something in front of them (like chicken and rice) and watch them shovel spoonfuls of it into their mouths, it makes me a very happy mama. When you know your kids thoroughly enjoy something you’ve cooked for them, it’s more satisfying than the meal itself.

These are just a few of the moments I love in my life…. will you share some of yours?

I love reading stories to them. I love how they snuggle up in your lap and pay such close attention to the story. I also love watching them play together – they have a great time!
