Cassy Fiano

Hi everyone! My name is Cassy Fiano. I was born in Jacksonville, Florida. My husband and I met when we were twelve, at a birthday party where he fell on the pool deck and broke one of his front teeth. I worked in several different fields until I got married. My husband and I knew that we wanted to have a family and that when we did, I would be a stay-at-home mommy. Last July, we found out I was pregnant, and on the day of my first doctor’s appointment, he deployed to Afghanistan. Unfortunately, during my pregnancy, I ended up with preeclampsia. Luckily, my husband returned the morning of my scheduled induction, so the day he came home from Afghanistan was the day we went to the hospital. 16 hours and a c-section later, we had our beautiful little boy, Benjamin. Being a parent has changed my life. I’ve learned to be more patient; that it’s possible to operate on two hours of sleep, and I’ve also learned that I never really knew what stress was until I experienced a baby crying inconsolably for four hours straight. I’ve learned that looking at my son sleeping in my arms can move me to tears, that I never really loved anyone the way I love my him, and that all of the hard times can be completely wiped away with one little smile. The last four months have been an incredible journey, and I can’t wait to share the rest of it with you!

The Kissing Queen

Too busy trying to kiss the lady beside me to smile for a picture!

Somehow we have managed to create one of the sweetest children I have ever been around. I may have mentioned this before, but a phase that she is going through right now makes it even more evident. At least I hope it is a phase because her Daddy will be quite upset if Braylin continues puckering up to everyone that she meets into her teenage years.

It all started with trying to teach her “thank you” in sign language. Right off the bat she started blowing kisses instead (the two are very similar). The only trouble is she would have her mouth wide open when she put her hand to it to blow the kiss, so we showed her how to pucker her lips. That was all it took to create our very own kissing queen.

Of course we were thrilled for her to run to us with her lips puckered for sweet kisses (we still love it). Another good thing is that it was perfect timing for being able to give “sugar” to our family in Florida. Little did we know she would start trying to kiss everyone that she met and our sweet child goes straight for the lips every single time. At first I thought it was cute, now I’m just not sure how I feel about it!

When I am holding her, I guide her toward people’s cheeks or forehead for a smooch, but when they are holding her I have no control over where the kiss lands. As soon as I see her lips pucker and head tilt back, I have started saying, “Oh, she wants you to give her a kiss on the cheek!” I am slowly figuring out how to work around this issue, except when it comes to kissing other children… I haven’t figured out how to conquer that one yet. Maybe I am overreacting, but I feel like there are too many germs floating around to be kissing everyone on the lips.

Am I over thinking this whole kissing thing? Does your child like to kiss people?
