Cassy Fiano

Hi everyone! My name is Cassy Fiano. I was born in Jacksonville, Florida. My husband and I met when we were twelve, at a birthday party where he fell on the pool deck and broke one of his front teeth. I worked in several different fields until I got married. My husband and I knew that we wanted to have a family and that when we did, I would be a stay-at-home mommy. Last July, we found out I was pregnant, and on the day of my first doctor’s appointment, he deployed to Afghanistan. Unfortunately, during my pregnancy, I ended up with preeclampsia. Luckily, my husband returned the morning of my scheduled induction, so the day he came home from Afghanistan was the day we went to the hospital. 16 hours and a c-section later, we had our beautiful little boy, Benjamin. Being a parent has changed my life. I’ve learned to be more patient; that it’s possible to operate on two hours of sleep, and I’ve also learned that I never really knew what stress was until I experienced a baby crying inconsolably for four hours straight. I’ve learned that looking at my son sleeping in my arms can move me to tears, that I never really loved anyone the way I love my him, and that all of the hard times can be completely wiped away with one little smile. The last four months have been an incredible journey, and I can’t wait to share the rest of it with you!

Joshua and the Animals

When Nathan was little, he was obsessed with cars. And not just cars – fire trucks, ambulances, trucks, backhoes, bulldozers, trains, and pretty much anything else with wheels was a favorite of his. He would get so excited when we were driving around and he’d spot some cool truck or something. Given that half of Jacksonville is under construction at any given moment, there was a lot for him to see. It was great! Emily was also a great little sister and got excited about whatever Nathan was excited about.

Until recently, Joshua hadn’t shown any particular preferences, other than food. Even there, it was a love of all food, nothing in particular.  Now that he’s starting to hit the semi-verbal phase, though, he’s finally found his first, true love – animals.

He loves animals. He gets so excited when he hears dogs barking in the neighborhood, and he tries to bark back at them. When he sees birds flying around, he has to point each one out to me and follow them around with his finger. It’s really cute.

His love isn’t limited to real animals either. He loves all of our plastic, toy animals too. He carries them around the house, making animal noises. The best part about his noises though is that the only noise he knows is the roar of a dinosaur, which is great when he’s carrying around a scary T Rex. When it’s a cow though, the roaring is pretty funny. Sheep, goats, horses, dogs, and any other animals we have all say, “Rarr!!!”

So if you’re ever at our house and hear a vicious animal coming around the corner, don’t worry. It’s just Joshua with whatever today’s favorite animal is. This boy loves his animals.

What is your little one obsessed with these days?
