Ashley Mozingo

Hi everyone! My name is Ashley, and I am a stay at home mom to two girls, Paislee, 3 and Keely, 1. My husband is in the Coast Guard, and is currently stationed at a Coast Guard unit on Camp Lejune. We have been married for five years now and have spent two of those years in Alaska, where Paislee was born, and two in Maine, where we had Keely. We were lucky to get stationed here in 2012, and call North Carolina "home". We were both born and raised in different cities in eastern North Carolina, and we are super excited to get to spend some time here with our girls and introduce them to some of our favorite places that we had as children. Before I met my husband, I attended East Carolina University, where I earned my Bachelors Degree in Communications. I have a love for writing, and a huge passion for being a mom, so I am thrilled to have the opportunity to write about my experiences and exciting moments of this rocky ride that we all call 'Motherhood'.

Happy Birthday Marines! Part 1

If you are a Marine or the significant other of a Marine you know that it is “that time” of the year again. Love it or hate it, the Marine Corps Birthday Ball is upon us. I have always loved the ball because it brings back fond memories of the first ball I attended with Ryan and him asking me to marry him just before it.

Last year I  changed my mind about the ball because it was so stressful having a one month old and trying to make everything perfect. The night turned out well, but not without a near panic attack from me because I forgot everything that you can imagine before leaving Braylin with a sitter for the first time.

This year, Ryan and I vowed that the night would be much less stressful and we would have an amazing time. The ball was in the same location that it was last year, all the way in Myrtle Beach; the only change was that the battalion would not be providing childcare this year. When I say they provided childcare last year, they had a service come to the venue and we paid them. This year, finding childcare was on us. We don’t know anyone in Myrtle Beach and I’m sorry, but I wasn’t going to find someone on CraigsList to take care of Braylin so I started doing research a couple of months ahead of time.

I found a nanny service in the Charleston area that offered services in Myrtle Beach so I called and asked them 50 questions and decided that they were definitely the company to go with. I made reservations and thought I had everything taken care of until the day of the ball came…
