Cassy Fiano

Hi everyone! My name is Cassy Fiano. I was born in Jacksonville, Florida. My husband and I met when we were twelve, at a birthday party where he fell on the pool deck and broke one of his front teeth. I worked in several different fields until I got married. My husband and I knew that we wanted to have a family and that when we did, I would be a stay-at-home mommy. Last July, we found out I was pregnant, and on the day of my first doctor’s appointment, he deployed to Afghanistan. Unfortunately, during my pregnancy, I ended up with preeclampsia. Luckily, my husband returned the morning of my scheduled induction, so the day he came home from Afghanistan was the day we went to the hospital. 16 hours and a c-section later, we had our beautiful little boy, Benjamin. Being a parent has changed my life. I’ve learned to be more patient; that it’s possible to operate on two hours of sleep, and I’ve also learned that I never really knew what stress was until I experienced a baby crying inconsolably for four hours straight. I’ve learned that looking at my son sleeping in my arms can move me to tears, that I never really loved anyone the way I love my him, and that all of the hard times can be completely wiped away with one little smile. The last four months have been an incredible journey, and I can’t wait to share the rest of it with you!

Angel Story

That's me in the picture holding Serophina when she was just a few days old.

This story was given to me when Serophina was born. It’s decorated on a canvas with a picture of me holding her. It’s always been on her bedroom wall and it’s a story that I’ve always loved and wanted to share with you.

Once upon a time, there was a child ready to be born. Realizing this, she asked God:

“They tell me you are sending me to earth soon but how am I going to live there being so small and helpless?”

Among the many angels, I chose one for you. She will be waiting for you and will take care of you.

“But here in Heaven, I sing and smile. That’s enough for me to be happy.”

Your angel will sing and smile for you every day. And you will feel your angel’s love and be happy.

“And how will I understand when people talk to me, if I don’t know their language?”

Your angel will tell you the most beautiful and sweet words you will ever hear, and with much patience and care, your angel will teach you how to speak.

“What will I do when I want to talk to you?”

Your angel will place your hands together and teach you how to pray.

“I’ve heard that on earth there are bad men. Who will protect me?”

Your angel will defend you even if it means risking its life.

“But I will be sad because I will miss you.”

Your angel will always tell you about me and teach you the way to come back to me, even though I will always be next to you.

At that moment there was much peace in Heaven, but voices from earth could already be heard, and the child in a hurry asked softly:

“Oh God, if I am about to leave now, please tell me my angel’s name.”

Your angel’s name is not important, for you will call your angel, Mama.

That story really means a lot to me and I’m glad I have such a wonderful keepsake of it. Do you have any children’s stories that really pull at your heart strings?
