Cassy Fiano

Hi everyone! My name is Cassy Fiano. I was born in Jacksonville, Florida. My husband and I met when we were twelve, at a birthday party where he fell on the pool deck and broke one of his front teeth. I worked in several different fields until I got married. My husband and I knew that we wanted to have a family and that when we did, I would be a stay-at-home mommy. Last July, we found out I was pregnant, and on the day of my first doctor’s appointment, he deployed to Afghanistan. Unfortunately, during my pregnancy, I ended up with preeclampsia. Luckily, my husband returned the morning of my scheduled induction, so the day he came home from Afghanistan was the day we went to the hospital. 16 hours and a c-section later, we had our beautiful little boy, Benjamin. Being a parent has changed my life. I’ve learned to be more patient; that it’s possible to operate on two hours of sleep, and I’ve also learned that I never really knew what stress was until I experienced a baby crying inconsolably for four hours straight. I’ve learned that looking at my son sleeping in my arms can move me to tears, that I never really loved anyone the way I love my him, and that all of the hard times can be completely wiped away with one little smile. The last four months have been an incredible journey, and I can’t wait to share the rest of it with you!

We have another walker!

He did it!  He finally did it!  That’s right, folks – this week Joshua, my fifteen-and-a-half-month-old finally started to walk! For those of you following along, he had actually taken his first steps a few weeks ago. And while those first steps were oh-so-cute, he hadn’t decided that walking was worth doing full time, until now.

The problem was that this new found skill only seemed to be a novelty to him. He would take a few steps, fall down, receive the appropriate praise, and crawl away.  He would then repeat this process about fifteen minutes later. Some days he seemed to want to start walking, but other times the inevitable falling seemed more than he was interested in experiencing. He really didn’t have a great grasp on the concept of balance, and so he really couldn’t walk far without falling. And so the crawling continued.

About three days ago, though, he seemed to finally master the idea of balancing. And once he figured that out, the rest, as we say, is history. He started walking more and more, and crawling less and less. And given that one day last week he blew out both knees in a pair of jeans not five hours after I took off their tags, I’m grateful that he’s started walking. That was an expensive morning of crawling outside!

Yesterday, he walked into the kitchen while I was doing something, carrying a police car. He had this great big grin on his face that said, “Check me out, mom – I’m walking AND carrying a car. Yes, I’m awesome.” Yes, little buddy, you are awesome. Way to walk (and earlier than your siblings)!

When did your little one start walking full-time? How did their transition go?
