Cassy Fiano

Hi everyone! My name is Cassy Fiano. I was born in Jacksonville, Florida. My husband and I met when we were twelve, at a birthday party where he fell on the pool deck and broke one of his front teeth. I worked in several different fields until I got married. My husband and I knew that we wanted to have a family and that when we did, I would be a stay-at-home mommy. Last July, we found out I was pregnant, and on the day of my first doctor’s appointment, he deployed to Afghanistan. Unfortunately, during my pregnancy, I ended up with preeclampsia. Luckily, my husband returned the morning of my scheduled induction, so the day he came home from Afghanistan was the day we went to the hospital. 16 hours and a c-section later, we had our beautiful little boy, Benjamin. Being a parent has changed my life. I’ve learned to be more patient; that it’s possible to operate on two hours of sleep, and I’ve also learned that I never really knew what stress was until I experienced a baby crying inconsolably for four hours straight. I’ve learned that looking at my son sleeping in my arms can move me to tears, that I never really loved anyone the way I love my him, and that all of the hard times can be completely wiped away with one little smile. The last four months have been an incredible journey, and I can’t wait to share the rest of it with you!

Our week of firsts – Nathan

Last week was a big-time week of firsts around the Reese household. Almost all of the little members of our family hit major milestones in the past week, milestones both they and we as their parents were very excited about. We’ll start off with Nathan.

Nathan finally started soccer practice last week! This is the first time he’s done any organized athletic activity. Nathan was sooo excited for his first practice that he could hardly handle it. The time it took me to get Joshua and Emily out of the car was pure torture for him. Nathan has unfortunately inherited my innate fear of balls – I was that kid in gym who would duck when the volleyball came her way. But, he’s still enjoying it, and Chad plans on taking him into the backyard to practice a lot before their first game next week.

Nathan’s other milestone was starting preschool last week. He was also really excited about this major event. Chad and I went to the open house with Nathan the week before class started, leaving Emily and Joshua at a friend’s house. He had been a little nervous about preschool, and we hoped that the open house would allay his fears. As soon as we got to his classroom, he dove straight into playing with all the new toys and kids. It was love at first sight.

On the first day of school, Emily, Joshua, and I all walked him into his classroom. After his teacher showed him where to put his folder, lunch box, and backpack, he headed straight to the tables where the teacher had laid out a coloring page and crayons for each child.  He went right to work coloring, barely looking up to say goodbye to us.  He had a great time that day making new friends, painting, playing, and having fun.

Whew – what a week! First soccer practice, first day of preschool – Nathan sure has had fun this week. It’s been rewarding as a parent to see him successfully take on these new adventures.  And he is loving it too!

What new activities has your little one started lately?  How are you all handling it?
