Cassy Fiano

Hi everyone! My name is Cassy Fiano. I was born in Jacksonville, Florida. My husband and I met when we were twelve, at a birthday party where he fell on the pool deck and broke one of his front teeth. I worked in several different fields until I got married. My husband and I knew that we wanted to have a family and that when we did, I would be a stay-at-home mommy. Last July, we found out I was pregnant, and on the day of my first doctor’s appointment, he deployed to Afghanistan. Unfortunately, during my pregnancy, I ended up with preeclampsia. Luckily, my husband returned the morning of my scheduled induction, so the day he came home from Afghanistan was the day we went to the hospital. 16 hours and a c-section later, we had our beautiful little boy, Benjamin. Being a parent has changed my life. I’ve learned to be more patient; that it’s possible to operate on two hours of sleep, and I’ve also learned that I never really knew what stress was until I experienced a baby crying inconsolably for four hours straight. I’ve learned that looking at my son sleeping in my arms can move me to tears, that I never really loved anyone the way I love my him, and that all of the hard times can be completely wiped away with one little smile. The last four months have been an incredible journey, and I can’t wait to share the rest of it with you!

Getting a Good Picture is Nearly Impossible

Almost there but one's eyes are closed and the other's not even looking

Have you ever noticed how hard it can be sometimes to get a decent picture of your kid(s)? When Serophina was a toddler, I regularly took her into Sears portrait studio to get her pictures done. After an hour long session we would come away with only one or two frame-worthy photos. Whenever someone came over to the house and talked about what a cute picture it was, I’d laugh to myself thinking about how hard it was to get that one good picture. Getting her to stand there, look at the camera and smile with her eyes open……all at the same time…..was quite a production.

Kevin and I both love taking pictures of our kids and we have thousands and thousands of photos in our photo library. There are more than enough pictures that capture them in regular life, we cherish these candid, non-manufactured moments.

Now Sai's looking but Serophina decides to look down at the grass

But every now and then I want a pose. I want them to stand together, with their arms around one another, in matching outfits perhaps, smiling and looking at the camera.

Talk about a challenge! Usually it starts out with me getting Serophina to stand there while I grab Saioa and place her next to her sister. Saioa either doesn’t want to stay, and if she does she’s looking at the ground or trying to do a somersault or something crazy like that.

It's over now. Forget about getting a good picture.

If I actually have a moment where I get Sai looking at the camera, Serophina decides to look at the sky or go running off to look at something, or make a pouty face. It results in me getting frustrated and wondering why I even bothered!
