Cassy Fiano

Hi everyone! My name is Cassy Fiano. I was born in Jacksonville, Florida. My husband and I met when we were twelve, at a birthday party where he fell on the pool deck and broke one of his front teeth. I worked in several different fields until I got married. My husband and I knew that we wanted to have a family and that when we did, I would be a stay-at-home mommy. Last July, we found out I was pregnant, and on the day of my first doctor’s appointment, he deployed to Afghanistan. Unfortunately, during my pregnancy, I ended up with preeclampsia. Luckily, my husband returned the morning of my scheduled induction, so the day he came home from Afghanistan was the day we went to the hospital. 16 hours and a c-section later, we had our beautiful little boy, Benjamin. Being a parent has changed my life. I’ve learned to be more patient; that it’s possible to operate on two hours of sleep, and I’ve also learned that I never really knew what stress was until I experienced a baby crying inconsolably for four hours straight. I’ve learned that looking at my son sleeping in my arms can move me to tears, that I never really loved anyone the way I love my him, and that all of the hard times can be completely wiped away with one little smile. The last four months have been an incredible journey, and I can’t wait to share the rest of it with you!

I have a love/hate relationship with my hair.

Back in the day, a.k.a. when I was young, single and childless, I happily colored my tresses regularly and grew them out nice and long and shiny. My hair and I got along pretty well back then, although I damaged it by constant dying along with other various forms of mistreatment.

Fast forward 7 years:  I got pregnant and whiny and randomly chopped it all off one day with kitchen scissors in a hormonal fit of rage over having a hairband snap on my fingers while putting my hair up. Yes, I’d say it was a slight overreaction (:

Well I guess that was the last straw for my lovely locks, and my hair officially began a rebellion, which I totally deserved.

First my naturally light brown straight hair turned dark brown and kinda frizzy, but I chalked that up to wacky pregnancy symptoms, only to realize a year later that this might be a permanent change.

Then later after Isaac was born and my hair began to get long and thick again, I started to get headaches when I had my hair up in a pony or bun or even a headband, after only a couple hours! Not migraines, but enough for me to consider other options, such as shaving my head  — Ok, not really but maybe just cutting it short again.

Add some super hot and humid weather, a Grammie who keeps the AC on 85, and a toddler who enjoys yanking my hair out, and yes, it’s about that time again to bust out the scissors!

No, I did not do it myself this for once, as the old hormones have somewhat gotten back to normal, whatever “normal” may be for me, haha (:

Let’s leave the hair-cutting to the professionals, please Sarah?

Hooray for short summer haircuts!

I was heading over to a hair place in the neighborhood when I glanced at Isaac in the rear view and noticed that his own mop top was getting a tad unruly and almost in his eyes again, so I decided to tag team with him.

Twenty minutes later we breezed out with new super short hair styles, woo!  Mother and son decided to live dangerously and opted for a cute layered bob for me and an almost buzz cut for him, and we are both pleased (:

How is your relationship with your hair these days, or your kid’s hair?

Adorable haircuts! Yay for short hair :) I did the same thing not too long ago, for similar reasons – summer humidity, heat, and lack of AC :)
You look ravishing my dear and Isaac looks more and more like you every day :) Adorable!
    Hugs and love…Sue

    Hi Sue,
I’m not sure “ravishing” is a synonym for “mom hair” but thanks anyway, hehe. Yeah your cute and sassy short cut inspired me as well as all the other usual factors. I’m glad you think Isaac looks like me, most people say he looks just like Chris and I get a tad jealous…but I do see those big apple cheeks in his sweet face, and you know those are all ME (:

[...] in the heat of the summer, I decided to get both my and my son’s hair chopped off, or rather mine bobbed and Isaac’s buzzed. Our necks were immediately ten degrees cooler! And it was so quick and easy to deal with — [...]
