Cassy Fiano

Hi everyone! My name is Cassy Fiano. I was born in Jacksonville, Florida. My husband and I met when we were twelve, at a birthday party where he fell on the pool deck and broke one of his front teeth. I worked in several different fields until I got married. My husband and I knew that we wanted to have a family and that when we did, I would be a stay-at-home mommy. Last July, we found out I was pregnant, and on the day of my first doctor’s appointment, he deployed to Afghanistan. Unfortunately, during my pregnancy, I ended up with preeclampsia. Luckily, my husband returned the morning of my scheduled induction, so the day he came home from Afghanistan was the day we went to the hospital. 16 hours and a c-section later, we had our beautiful little boy, Benjamin. Being a parent has changed my life. I’ve learned to be more patient; that it’s possible to operate on two hours of sleep, and I’ve also learned that I never really knew what stress was until I experienced a baby crying inconsolably for four hours straight. I’ve learned that looking at my son sleeping in my arms can move me to tears, that I never really loved anyone the way I love my him, and that all of the hard times can be completely wiped away with one little smile. The last four months have been an incredible journey, and I can’t wait to share the rest of it with you!

Impulsive Decisions- Our Day Trip to Wilmington Part 2

Monkey Joe's was awesome!

(To catch up on Part 1, click here)

Serophina was so excited when I told her what was happening. We started driving down our country road with the windows down and our favorite VBS songs blasting through the speakers and already we were having a crazy grand time.

The only major bump in the road we had was when we hit a stretch of highway that was so dense with smoke it made me feel like I was driving straight into a Stephen King novel, it was so spooky. And then there were brief patches of sudden, waterfall-like rain, which thankfully we survived…but other than that we made it into Wilmington just fine.

First stop Chuck E. Cheese. The noise, the games, the blinking lights, the creepy, dancing robot things on stage…it was all so dizzying but glorious at the same time. Saioa rode every cheesy little ride and was completely happy watching other kids play games. Serophina was totally psyched about getting tickets every time she played a game, even if it was just one. I got to be the ticket collector and after we enjoyed our pizza and had played almost every game, I told her about how she got to pick out a prize…. well that was just the icing on the cake for her. I love how kids sincerely think that any little thing is the best thing in the world. For Serophina that day, it happened to be a pink, sparkly bracelet.

Two hours and thirty tokens later, I was ready to go but I can honestly say that despite the chaotic environment that is natural for Chuck E. Cheese, the three of us girls had a blast.

We were now ready for our next and final destination, Monkey Joe’s. I packed the kids back up in the car, popped a couple Ibuprofen to ease my Chuck E. Cheese induced headache, and I was good to go.

You might think I’m crazy to take my kids to these two places back to back in one day, but I thought of it as a vacation for Serophina. And when you’re on vacation you cram in as much as you can before it’s time to go home. Serophina had a ton of energy saved for MJ’s and she ran and played and bounced ’til her little heart was content. Saioa napped in her stroller when we first got there but when she woke up I introduced her to the toddler bouncy area and you would’ve thought she was at Disney World.

When it was time to say goodbye to MJ’s, we got slurpees as parting gifts and headed back home. Serophina immediately fell asleep and Sai fell asleep shortly after, so it was a quiet drive the whole way home. It was very, very nice because at this point Mama was in need of some quiet time.

It was such a successful day that I am planning to impulsively take more day trips to Wilmington as there is still so much to do… Jungle Rapids, the Children’s Museum, Fit For Fun and so much more!
