Cassy Fiano

Hi everyone! My name is Cassy Fiano. I was born in Jacksonville, Florida. My husband and I met when we were twelve, at a birthday party where he fell on the pool deck and broke one of his front teeth. I worked in several different fields until I got married. My husband and I knew that we wanted to have a family and that when we did, I would be a stay-at-home mommy. Last July, we found out I was pregnant, and on the day of my first doctor’s appointment, he deployed to Afghanistan. Unfortunately, during my pregnancy, I ended up with preeclampsia. Luckily, my husband returned the morning of my scheduled induction, so the day he came home from Afghanistan was the day we went to the hospital. 16 hours and a c-section later, we had our beautiful little boy, Benjamin. Being a parent has changed my life. I’ve learned to be more patient; that it’s possible to operate on two hours of sleep, and I’ve also learned that I never really knew what stress was until I experienced a baby crying inconsolably for four hours straight. I’ve learned that looking at my son sleeping in my arms can move me to tears, that I never really loved anyone the way I love my him, and that all of the hard times can be completely wiped away with one little smile. The last four months have been an incredible journey, and I can’t wait to share the rest of it with you!

B’s First Fourth!

The only thing missing was Daddy!

Celebrating the Fourth of July has always been something that I like to do. So, it was no surprise that I wanted Braylin’s first Fourth of July to be fun and exciting. I started talking about plans with everyone as soon as we made it to Florida. We all agreed that we wanted to avoid the tourist hot spots and have a more laid back celebration.

Laid back is the perfect way to describe our day. We started out with a combined family barbecue where Braylin was the only baby, so she got lots of loving. After all of our bellies were full and Braylin had her first taste of delicious brownie, it was time for our town’s parade. The timing was not ideal because it happened to be naptime, but we decided to chance it and headed downtown. When we got there, I put some ear plugs in Braylin’s little ears and they worked. It was your typical parade with the loud fire trucks leading the whole thing, but guess who slept through the entire thing. Yep, that’s right; Braylin totally missed her first parade!

After the parade, we went back to my friends’ house to hang out until the fireworks. I had a plan to watch the fireworks from the house to avoid the scary noises for Braylin. Then, at the last minute, I decided to walk down to the lake where they were shooting the fireworks off. We got there right at dark and I went ahead and stuck B’s earplugs in again. The fireworks started and her eyes got as big as quarters as she watched them. After a few minutes, she got a little fussy, so I started to pack up to leave. When I stood up, she laid her head on my shoulder and fell fast asleep. Yep, that’s right; Braylin miss her first fireworks!

Even though she slept through the key parts of her first Independence Day, I think Braylin had a successful day of celebration!

How did you celebrate the Fourth?
