Stand up, Joshua
Joshua hit another milestone this week – he learned how to pull up to standing! He had been pulling up onto his knees for a few weeks, and he had been enjoying his new found ability to get into things. Logically, the next step is to pull up to standing, but Nathan and Emily had both been so slow to make that jump that I thought we were still months away. Boy was I wrong.
The first time he did it, Joshua was in Nathan and Emily’s room playing. Nathan ran out to tell me, but by the time I got there he had already fallen down. We repeated this a few times over the next day until I finally saw him do it. He was quite proud of himself.
This new skill meant that his crib needed to be dropped to the lowest setting to keep him from falling out. So, before bed that night, the change was made. As soon as I put Joshua in his crib, he headed straight for the side and pulled up to standing. He was very excited.
Standing has definitely had its ups and downs so far. Literally. He can get into lots more things now. He’s tall for his age, so his range is becoming impressive. Nathan and Emily are still adjusting to having to put their things that much higher to keep them out of his reach. It also means that when he falls, he has much farther to fall. He’s had a few impressive crashes so far. He’s needed a lot more Mommy snuggles.
The next major milestone will be walking – yikes! He’s starting to take a tentative step or two when you hold his fingers, and he’s trying out the idea of scooting along furniture. Nathan had just learned how to crawl a week or two earlier when he was Joshua’s age. Emily had no idea her legs could actually support her until she was almost a year and a half old. This world of early mobility is a new one for me. Heaven help us all!
When did your little one learn to pull up to standing? How did you both do with that change?
