I Dread a Busted Head…
As I sit here typing this, I am a little jittery and can’t stop looking over my shoulder. Why, you ask? Well, after mastering the art of crawling last week, Braylin decided that wasn’t enough for her, so she started pulling up on everything she gets close to.
I knew that babies were curious, that is why we “baby proofed” our house. However, no amount of baby proofing (except perhaps rubber floors) can prepare for a clumsy baby.
I love milestones. I love seeing our baby grow and develop, BUT she has already hurt herself a couple of times and I’m not looking forward to it happening again.
When we bought our house three years ago, we opted for wood floors not thinking about what a hard landing spot they create. I want her to explore and figure out how do things on her own, I just don’t want her to bust her head open in the process. Do they make baby sized helmets? That would help tremendously (I’m kidding, I think)!
My guess is that no one likes to see their babies injure themselves. I know we have to let them grow up and figure things out on their own, but when is the right time to stop standing next to them all times ready to catch them? Surely I am not the only one that “spots” my daughter when she is standing next to the various items that she pulls up on… or am I?
Am I being over protective by not wanting her to fall or am I normal?
