Recurring themes
There are a few reoccurring themes that Michael loves to talk about. It’s obvious where his interests lie; at two years old, he has no filter and thus reveals his inner “Michael-man” (a nickname we call him). Off the top of my head, these are a few of his interests:
- Trains Enough said! This kids LOVES trains. Everywhere we go, everything we do somehow involves trains. He remembers how to get to the model train museum we went to once while visiting my parent’s house over Thanksgiving. He says his bunk-bed ladder is a train track. Any pattern on a rug or floor and elevated surface is a train track. He announces when reading a favorite book that a train track will appear on the next page.
- “Fighting” My husband might have something to do with this one. Charlie is a Marine and therefore has instilled certain characteristics of Marines into Michael’s mind. Because of this, anytime we see a group of Marines Michael thinks they are going to fight (used interchangeably with wrestle). Michael expects every little boy to want to “fight” and doesn’t understand when the action is not reciprocated. Add a ball to the scene and Michael’s all over it! Sometimes I’m slightly embarrassed because I worry that people will think my son is a meat-head. I swear he does have a sweet and gentle side to him too!
- Christmas is everywhere There’s no doubting that Michael remembers last year’s Christmas. Any old pine tree can be a Christmas tree; he asks to read his Christmas books before going to bed; upon seeing a picture of a Polar Bear, he says that they live with Santa on the North Pole.
