Big Joshua
Joshua is a big baby. I mean that literally. At an appointment two weeks ago, he came in at over twenty-one pounds. He turns eight months this week. His cheeks are impressively round, and his thighs are of similar proportions. In fact, the first part of him to grow out of clothes usually is his thighs. At least they give him a solid base for sitting.
Since Joshua and his thighs are starting to grow out of his current clothes, I pulled out the next-sized box of Nathan’s old clothes. Now, even though Nathan and Joshua are both boys, they were born at completely different times of the year – January and June. I really haven’t been able to use a good chunk of Nathan’s clothes since the seasons were off. There went the efficiency of having another boy.
Anyway, there were some pants and things that were seasonally appropriate, so I got them out to try out. Joshua has me completely baffled. He has pants that are 9-mos and 12-mos that are too small. All of his daytime 12-mos one-piece outfits are too small, as well as one 18-mos (!?!) outfit. But, his 12-mos pajamas still fit well. And some 12-mos pants are too big, while others are too small.
And while bottoms are certainly a problem, shirts are also being difficult. Shirts that are roomy enough to fit around his tummy are also too long on him. I have no idea what size this kid wears.
It’s not all differences between brands, although that is contributing to this whole mess. He has pajamas and one-piece daytime outfits in the same brand and size that fit differently. How on earth does that happen?
So, it’s time to hit the stores again to try and find this baby some clothes to wear. I think I’ve found one outfit that mostly fits, and the rest are all off. I’m about to let him run around in his pajamas, since I at least know what size he wears in those. Wish me luck this week at the store, again!
Have you had a hard time figuring out what size your baby is? How did you solve the problem?

I think our main issue is the difference in brands (Carter’s seems to be tiny and Children’s Place is pretty large). Braylin seems average size to me, but she wears a variety of sizes from 3 months to 12 months. I have learned to keep my receipts and leave the tags on until she tries everything on!
Good luck on your shopping adventures!
We also never take tags off – they’ve been known to grow out of clothes before I can even get them in them! I think we’ve finally sorted things out with a trip to the hand-me-down bin and a few well-placed sales. His poor little legs no longer hang out of everything. Whew!
