Weekend in Raleigh
We try to get up to visit my parents in Raleigh once a month. Nathan and Emily like seeing their grandparents, Chad and I enjoy being in a bigger city, and Joshua is just along for the ride. This past weekend was our monthly trip, and my sister and her children who had just been evacuated from Egypt joined us. I liked to call them refugees.
Needless to say, with six little ones under the age of five, it was quite the weekend. Nathan and Emily had a great time playing with their cousins Kathleen and Sophia. They woke up early every morning, excited to play together. They dressed up, built forts and rocket ships, made some impressive train tracks, splashed away in the big bathtub, watched movies, and ate lots of Grandpa’s pancakes.
The two littlest ones weren’t such fans of all the noise and commotion, or of being away from their homes and cribs. My sister’s family had been through quite the week with lots of time being spent in airports, hotels, and lines trying to get out of Egypt, and Edwin had a hard time adjusting. I’m not quite sure what Joshua’s problem was – the first night we were there was perhaps his worst night of sleep ever, including the newborn nights. It was brutal. As long as he was being held, though, we all survived.
The big people also had a great visit. It was good to see my sister again, especially given everything that has been going on in her life of late. We celebrated my mom’s birthday at one of my favorite restaurants in Raleigh. We were able to visit some of our favorite stores in Raleigh as well.
After a car ride involving major crying and screaming from Emily (she didn’t quite understand that I couldn’t give her a snuggle while driving down I-40), we made it back home Saturday evening. Everyone had a great time, and we all slept really well Saturday night. It truly was a wonderful weekend away.
Have you had any weekends away lately? How were your trips?

I’m in love with Raleigh. It’s three hours from us and when I need a city fix that’s where I go. We were just there and spent most of our time at the Museum of Natural Science….which is awesome!
Raleigh is our getaway too. Every so often I need a little city. I’m glad to hear about the museum – that’s next on our list of places to visit. Nathan is excited about the dinosaur bones.
